Re: Carmax Has Bad cars

hi, Pam.
where are you located????
I believe the lemon law applies to both new and used cars, although certain conditions must be met.
here's the link....take a look and see if your situation can be covered by the lemon law.
http://www.californialemonlawattorneys.com/callaw.htm
hope that helps.
good luck.

Re: Carmax Has Bad cars

Did you ever run a Carfax on the VIN? The car may have been in a major accident or even salvaged .

Re: Carmax Has Bad cars

Im located in Atlanta Ga,
Every one is saying it's only for new cars, and it's only good for 1 year or 12,000 miles.
The title is clean.
lets say if this car has been wreck and the dealership did not tell me, is there anything i can do to them? because how the guy that sold me the car was talk it seem like he knew that the car has been in a accident.

Thanks
Pam

There is a common misconception concerning the Lemon Law, that it only applies to vehicles that are less than 18 months old or have less than 18,000 miles. This belief is not true! The Lemon Law will apply to a vehicle regardless of how old it is or how many miles is has, so long as the vehicle is having problems that are under warranty.

this was directly quoted from the link above.
double check with your local lawyer....sometimes "everyone" could have wrong info.

Re: Carmax Has Bad cars

"If the door is steel (and I think it is) try holding a magnet up next to it. The magnet should try to adhere to the vehicle. If you find a spot where the magnet doesn't want to stick... BONDO has been applied. This is an old trick that works best on old cars. You might want to keep a piece of wax paper between the paint and the magnet just incase you accidentally have the magnet touch the car. This is one way an untrained eye can tell if a door has been repaired."

A good body repair will use very little plastic filler(bondo isn't really used anymore). Technology improvements have made it easier to manipulate metal and bring it very close to the original shape. Plastic filler is then used to smooth out the body rather than fill dents to any significant amount. A portion of an old car of mine that had been repaired got hit again in teh same area and I was actually able to see the plastic filler thickness. It was less than 1/8 inch. It will also depend on teh strength of the magnet as well, but I wouldn't use this as a surefire way to tell repairs. And plastic filler isn't necessarily a bad thing either. And if it is the door, then usually it is only the door skin that is repaired which probably will have little effect on the opening and closing or alignment of the door.

Re: Carmax Has Bad cars

Unless this car was built on a Friday - it sounds like its been in an accident - The lemon law will probably not apply to your situation - It for sure won't if there is any accident info from CARFAX on the vehicle at all... The best recourse you have is putting up a big enough stink at the dealer you bought from and hopefully they will realize the car they sold you is a piece! either way with the amount of problems you are having - get another car - it in YOUR best interest...

Re: Carmax Has Bad cars

Pam, having lemon-lawed a new car in GA, I can tell you that the protections only apply to new car sales. You have to be very careful with used cars in GA, as there is essentially no legal protection.

Your car sounds like it was either in an accident or perhaps was salvaged from a disaster. I'd do a title search and see what pops out of the woodwork.

Wolfster: Insurance fraud is not a joking matter. It is costing you and I hundreds of extra dollars a year in insurance costs.

The least you can do is contact http://www2.state.ga.us/GaOCA/

You may be able to raise enough of a stink that Infiniti will make amends just to make you go away.

Re: Carmax Has Bad cars

carmax doesn't sell salvaged titles though. They don't look at carfax or anything like that because it can be inaccurate. Instead they have their techs actually examine the car to check for body damage etc.

I had two friends who took their cars to sell them to carmax and they both showed them that they had frame damage and have been salvaged (even though neither had salvaged titles). One of them knew about it, the other had no idea his car had frame damage from a previous owner.

Again, I would talk to management at carmax. I'm interested to see how they will respond based on everything you've happened since you just took ownership.
