Re: Major Oil Burnoff!!!

Isn't Mobil 1 Super Sythnetic suppose to be the best oil for our engine? I had mine changed and now I'm hearing this kind of problem issue. I thought Sythnetic is the cleanest oil and suppose to be fair better than conventional oil.

Peace.

the most I've burned is about 1.25 quarts in just under 4K (regular dino oil). On average it's been just over 1 quart at each change which is around 3700-4000 miles.

"The rings seat in the first 1500-2000 miles or so (break-in period). " Maybe -----MAYBE NOT?...............oil consumption changes tell you when.

Anyway they cannot decline the warranty if you can prove 90 day oil changes as long as you can prove the correct viscosity Synthetic or otherwise!
They can decline if examination of oils or bearings show low oil or wear from dirt getting into engine via K&N air filter.

Why it is usually not worth the hassles to modify an engine while the warranty is in effect.

Something is wrong why they do the oil consumption test. You have years and years to get a new engine!

Re: Major Oil Burnoff!!!

My point about low oil is you are responsible for keeping it filled to the correct level even if it is burning oil, even if you have to check it every day and add oil.

Showing up for an oil change with below normal [ more than a quart low] is evidence that you are not doing your required due diligence! And your error may have [probably did] contribute or cause any wear.

All the warranty asks of the owner is to MAINTAIN fluid levels and change fluids at required intervals...........

Re: Major Oil Burnoff!!!

Wouldn't you see the tell tale signs of oil comsumption in the form of white/bluish smoke if the car was burning say 2-3 quarts of oil every 3,000 miles?

I have had all my oil changes done at my dealer at 3,000 mile intervals faithfully. If the time comes for a major engine repair, Infiniti will have no choice but to honor the warranty. In my opinion, its worth the $34 for the oil change at the dealership for this reason alone.......

Speaking of getting an accurate reading, who knows how much oil is in the car anyway. The dipstick, or should I say contortionist stick never gives the same reading twice....I gave up checking my oil for lack of patience

Re: Major Oil Burnoff!!!

These posts are real eye openers. I have never used synthetics. Having had three previous Nissans with VQDE engines I never had an oil consumption problem. My coupe has 10K on the clock and is not using oil. If your running petro based oil (dinosaur juice)stick with dinosaur juice or go back to it immediately and see if you synthetic users have the same issue.
