Hail Damage to my 2 week old '04 G!!

Yesterday in Northern Virginia, we had some thunderstorms which included hail. In the 14 years I have lived in Virginia, or the 24 years of my existence on this earth, I have NEVER experienced hail to the extent of that which occured yesterday. All I could do while at work along with everyone else, was watch as our cars obtained what most of us consider beauty marks on people.....'dimples'. After a good 3-5 min of hail about the size of walnuts, I walked over to my 2 week old Coupe and saw small fingertip to nickel sized dimples all over my hood (roughly 15-20). The other body panels are reinforced by steel I am assuming, however the hood is simply a panel covering the engine and hollow which is why it retained damage. Anyone have any ideas how it can be fixed!!?? My insurance deductible is $100 which isnt much at all, but I am worried the body shop will try to fix it and make things worse (i.e. crappy paint job, crappy body work). Called rosenthal..my dealership...they said 'call insurance.' I thought about investing in a new hood....but where can I get one, if not the dealer? I also looked into 'Ding King' and suction cup method. Ding King research showed poor results if any, and in some cases more damage as a result of trying to remove dents. No reviews from the suction cup method. Dry Ice method works on steel, not aluminum, and I heard its a rumor may not even work anyway?? Any body got any ideas?!?! Next to the Chappelle Show, my next love is my car!!

That was one hell of a storm. I was on my way back to MD from Kings Dominion and ran right through that storm. Sorry to hear about your luck. I was lucky enough not to see any hail.

Jersey had the same issues... not as bad, but still bad enough to damage I hear.

Fortunately I was in midstate NY at the time.

Sorry to hear what happened to your ride.

When I heard it may have hailed, I immediately went outside, took my most educated guess, and determined it wasn't going to where I was. Otherwise I would have driven home that minute.

well u shoudl ask god for his insurance information.. then report it to ur insurance agency... but seriously.. you have two options.. either go find a dent wizard aka paintless dent removal place or get a new hood. I'm guessing its going to be around the same price for either one. The paintless dent removal is about 100 bux a dent, maybe cheaper since you have so many. For a new hood, you can get a carbon fiber one and paint it. My estimate is that you'll be paying 800 or so for either choice.

I just went out and bought a suction cup dent remover....I'll test it out on an unsuspecting co-workers prelude first just to be safe!!! I asked for God's insurance information, I think I may have to sue, however he has been real unresponsive....as usual.....

in these cases they will usually just replace the hood.

paintless dent repair can do wonders...

when a storm is approaching, watch this.
http://www.weatherunderground.com/ra...&showstorms=10
or the closest one to you.

Anything above 45000 is going to have hail. These storm tracks are pretty accurate and show probability of severe hail. I see a 50% of severe coming my way (at work), I'll go find shelter for the G.

Where were you in NoVa? I work in Nova in Herndon and didn't see any hail luckily with my G right outside. We did have a helluva storm however but no hail.

Be careful, GOD might be keeping score .

Dint Wizzard is an option. Another option would probably be to go through your auto insurance company. Most likely they'll issue you the money for a new hood as the dent removal might cost more than a new hood. This way you can either get a brand new aluminum hood or a CF hood if that's your cup of tea. Make 100% sure that you don't have additional damage elsewhere on your car, like the roof, trunk, etc... I *think* the trunk lid is aluminum, as is the hood, so there might be some subtile damage there too.

Keep us informed...

The above statements are only my take on the issue. If you disagree with anything I typed then you are 100% right!

I work off of rte 28 on westfields Blvd. in chantilly, according to the news agencies, chantilly was hit pretty hard compared to other areas. Of all the larger companies next door and across the street, ours is the only one with NO garage!!

Re: Hail Damage to my 2 week old '04 G!!

Well I went to www.dentwizard.com and located a local 'paintless dent removal' dealer. Detail Authority is the dealer closest to me, I just received my estimate and its around $1250 for about 25-30 dimples caused by the hail. The hood sustained the most damage, as I had parked next to a small tree which had slowed the velocity of some of the ice chunks. Besides the hood, I had about 2-3 on the roof behind the sunroof, and one one or two on the trunk before the spoiler. I also had 2-3 on the driver side rear quarter panel. Lets hope they do a good job!!
