even if you can't press charges, shouldn't she be responsible for fixing what she's damaged? it seems like at the very least she'd be liable for that as she's the one who's caused all the damage

In your divorce, who was supposed to get ownership of the car? Is it paid off? I wouldn't put it past her to file charges against YOU for stealing it now.

^Thats what I was thinking. Since you guys agreed to let her have the car, can't she just take it back after you fixed it all up?

The car is in MY name. I own it. And we had a no fault non contested divorce, meaning she CANNOT at any point in time in the future, come after me for any of my belongings. You give up that right when you agree to a no fault divorce. So no, she can't say I stole it, and she can't take it back either.

+1. Based on the pic, a little paintless dent repair is all it might need.

At least it is salvageable, and she didn't burn it that happens all of the time in Cali.

so she had the car while you guys were in the process of divorcing? and you let her temporarily keep the car until you guys were separated? I understand that it's a little too harsh to reclaim your car back right after separation, but what she did to the car tells me that she deserves to be treated badly!!

Wow...even my sister who doesn't give a crap about car maintenance wouldn't do things like that to a nice car.

Either way, good luck with the repair.

Thanks. No she can't reclaim it. I already had a few choice words for her. And no, the car is under my name.
