Newbie Questions
Newbie Questions
Hi everyone,
I just purchased a 2004 G35 coupe 6spd. I have a few
newbie questions:
1. Is it normal for the shifter to vibrate so much? There is
a lot of transmission vibration that can be felt through the
shifter. Coming from a car that has a buttery smooth
shifter with no vibration, this takes a little getting used to.
2. The car came with a clear, plastic protective film
on the fender, near the bottom of the car. Should these
be removed when I wax the car? Or are they like the
3M Clear Bra? I can't tell if they are just cheap protective
film that the factory uses that should have been removed
when the car was prepped for delivery.
3. With the speed sensititve volume control feature turned
on, the CD skips A LOT. When I go over little bumps, it
will just stop playing sometimes. Is this normal as well?
Or do I possibly have a defective unit? When I turn off
the feature, the CD plays fine.
Sorry for all these newbie questions, if they have been
discussed already before, kindly direct me with a link.
Thanks.
-Joey

Re: Newbie Questions
Hi Joey, welcome to the forum. Here are your answers:
1.) Yes, it is normal. This is the way the car is. There is nothing wrong with it and it's not an engineering flaw of any kind. The best advice is to just get used to it. Also keep in mind that when driving around, you're only supposed to have your hand on the shift **** when you're shifting.
2.) Brand new cars come with this white tape that is all over the car that the dealership removes before delivery. Sometimes (particularly during rushed deliveries) they don't remove all of this tape, but like I said, this tape is white. It could be a protective bra, but why would it be on the fender? Which fender is it on? Please give me some more details so I can better help you out.
3.) My speed sensitive volume control is turned off (I don't even know how to turn it on), but I can tell you that my CD changer has NEVER skipped before. The 18" wheels give the vehicle a very harsh ride and in even on NYC's awfully sh*tty roads, my CD player has never skipped or stopped at all.
4.) Since I didn't help you out at all on question #2, here's some advice: the G's front end is prone to a lot of rock chips and stuff from highway driving. Use a good quality car wax/auto polish, such as Zaino, and it will protect the front end just fine. I have 11,400+ miles on my Coupe and the front end has no signs of paint chips at all.

Re: Newbie Questions
Welcome.
1. I have a 5AT so I can't help on this one.
2. If your referring to the clear film in front of the rear tires on the bottom it's the 3M clear Bra material, leave it. I would highly recommend getting the clear bra put on ASAP if you don't already have it. Get the bumper, partial hood (about 2ft. up) and mirrors. If you wait to long, forget about it.
3. The CD skipping is not normal. Schedule an appointment with your dealer. They'll probably replace the unit.
4. I would also recommend Zaino. Zaino Website
