Warranty Issue + OEM CD Changer

I own a 2005 G35 coupe with 36,500 miles on it. I was under the impression that my OEM warranty was good for 5 years, but was told today at the dealership that it was only good for 4 years?!? That news comes entirely as a shock to me, because this whole time I thought it would expire 5 years after the purchase date.

Here's the problem: my OEM Bose CD changer decided to "die" the other day! It won't eject any CD's, play any CD's, etc. The dealership tells me that my warranty is expired and that it will cost around $500 to put in a new audio unit (including labor)! Although it may be as simple as a jammed disc, they said they would still need to replace the entire unit! Or I can pay $129 to have it diagnosed then pay any additional charges that may come up!

Any advice out there?

Thanks in advance!

Standard warranty is 4yrs/60k miles. Don't know where you got 5yrs from.

For $500, I'd spend a bit more for a double din.

Thanks for the warranty clarification! Perhaps I was confusing it with the 5 year power train warranty??

I'm planning on keeping the car for another +/-6 months, therefore, trying to cut back on any unnecessary spending, etc.

I got mine replaced last year by Infiniti (couldn't eject or play CDs anymore), but I'm looking to switch over to a DD. If you are interested then it'll give me a reason to bite the bullet and do it earlier, not sure if the 05 interior is the same as the 03-04 though. Send me a PM if you are.

I'll have to find out if my '05 would be compatible with the '03/'04?? I have the Bose system with the 6 CD/MP3 in dash changer. I'll get back to you!

The powertrain warranty is 6 year/70K miles.

Had my serviced by Short Circuit Repair in San Jose. They fix most of these CD changers for the Bay Area dealers. Can't remember this cost off hand (they also removed the changer from the dash), but it was about half the price from the dealer. They would have taken it out and sent it to SC anyways.

Also, their fix is not permanent. It lasted about a year before I got the "Err F0" again.

Thanks for the post tegraphile! I appreciate it! How long did the job take? I'm actually in the Central Cali area for the holidays but heading back to Nevada in a few days. So maybe I'll have to look up a place there.

For me, they gave me a brand new head unit. I had to wait for the part to come in and then for my CDs to come back after they extracted it.

OP, this should be a better and cheaper solution for you, but if it doesn't work out, LMK.

Yea if you're gonna spent $500+ might as well get the double DIN with nav in it. However, you will probably lose your steering wheel controls (unless you buy one other adapter).

Glad I could help.

I told them ahead of time that I was coming from out of town and told them I'd be waiting for the car. It's located in commercial park, so I just walked around for a bit and made some calls. I wanna say it was about 2-3 hours, but no more than that. I think I paid about $300 (including the removal); if you take it out youself, they charge closer to $160. Since I still wanted to keep steering wheel controls and the nav features, I figured it was expensive but the best option at that point.

Since the error is back (they do give a 1 year warranty, but it happened after), I'll probably end up going back to them again. Damn Infiniti CD changers!

Unscrew the old head unit and carefully extract your old CDs if there are any in there. They will be unscathed if you're slow about it.
Thanks for the advice buddy! I decided to replace the OEM Bose head unit with a Pioneer AVH-P4100DVD! I should have it installed within the next few days
