G35 Coupe Purchase - New or Used?

Hello,

I was wondering if any of you on the forum could help me with a question about purchasing a G35.

I'm located in southern CA, and looking to purchase a G35 coupe 6MT leather, w/ or w/o nav. My problem lies in the fact I can't decide whether to go for a new or used coupe. I'm willing to lay down $35,000 at max (after CA 8.25% sales tax, license, reg.), which is roughly about $32,000 sticker price, but no more.

Here in CA, I'm seeing sticker prices of '03 used 6MT leather coupes ranging from 15,000 - 25,000 miles, for $30,000 - $32,000 sticker price (which is just about my price range). Is this reasonable, or is there new '04 coupes that can be found at the same price, new?

What kind of price should I expect for a new '04 G35 6MT leather coupe w/ or w/o Nav.? If you have purchased your G coupe used, any bad experiences? Any input would help. Thanks.

Re: G35 Coupe Purchase - New or Used?

I am possibly in the market for a preowned 6MT and have tracked about every coupe that has sold in the Philly area four over four months to get a read on the market as a rule of thumb, I have found that a '03 should sell for 30K, add 1K for Nav and another 1K for '04. SoCal may might be somewhat different because people are still afraid of RWD around here with snow(wimps). I have seen some exceptione to this rule both higher and lower, but generally they fester on the lot for higher prices. Can't give you advice on problems with pre-owned as I have not decided what to buy other than I think I will only buy pre-owned. Good Luck

I bought mine with 10K miles on it from a private party. Hated all the dealer BS and hassle they were putting me thru so I found one online and drove to Ohio to get it. Got mine for $4K less than sticker with a lot less red tape. Never looked back..

Re: G35 Coupe Purchase - New or Used?

Thanks for the feedback fellas.

I'm looking hard to get a good price on a new 6MT leather '04 here in SoCal, in the $32,000 - $33,000 sticker price. It's near impossible! They're all running for $35,000 - $42,000! I'm seeing used '03's w / 15,000 - 25,000 miles for $30,000 - $33,000.

My concern with purchasing a used '03 is the reliability issues I've been hearing about, due to the fact it was the first model year.

Can any of you recommend a dealership (Infiniti or other) in
SoCal that have new 6MT leather '04's in the $32,000 - $33,000 (sticker) price range?

It depends on if you can find the right car for the right price, and if you are in a huury or not!!!
I took my time and looked and looked....finally found an '03..the exact color combo and options I was looking for...with 8K miles. The guy was a contractor who drove a truck...and the G was his weekend play car. I couldn't tell anyone had ever sat in it....it was like perfect.
Buying it from an individual, with no tax or BS fees....I figure I saved about $1.00 per mile - $8K!
Pays for a lot of goodies...wheels...etc.
But other people want a brand new car....NOW.
Just depends on your situation.

Have you checked craigslist yet? I was checking out used G's last month and there were only a few for sale from private parties. A couple of them never got back to me but one guy I was talking w/ had a 6MT, DG, Nav for $32,500. He was so busy that I couldn't see the car for weeks, and I wound up buying a new one. You could check out SF bay area craigslist and see the selection there.

I'm really in the market for a '04 6MT leather, after hearing all sorts of problems with the '03 6MT. Have any of you with '03's have any problems with your G? I can't seem to find a '04 6MT G in my price range ($32,000 - $33,000 sticker) here in SoCal.

If the used coupes are listed at higher than your price range, you can still negotiate with them to get them lower. Go do your pricing research at http://www.edmunds.com and KBB to get the price range and go from there. Scrutinize everything about the car, especially the tires since after 10k, they will be probably more than 50% gone. Make sure to point out every little ding or imperfection to try to get a lower price. good luck.

Re: G35 Coupe Purchase - New or Used?

thanks for the advice p_diddy. I'm finding that a base '04 6MT leather coupe is up for roughly $33,000 with only the aero package. Could I find better buy on dealer lots? Say, a new '04 6MT with more options than just the aero, at the same price as above?

Re: G35 Coupe Purchase - New or Used?

I'd rather buy a used car from a private party than a dealer, because you can talk to the guy and get a sense for whether he took care of the car and find out all the little quirks/problems/mods it has, and also, it will be cheaper than buying from a dealer.

Don't forget to get the VIN and run a carfax(.com) report on it to make sure it's clean.

Re: G35 Coupe Purchase - New or Used?

I must be living right! 2003 loaded w/ everything except nav and the wheel brake pkg. with 6700 miles for 26.5K and a clean car fax. Guy needed $$ for down payment on a house.
FL or TX is the place to buy!
Cheers

If you're a gambling man, wait about another month or so when the dealers will want to make room for the 05's. You should be able to steal an 04' providing you really shop around and can be a little open towards color and options.
