Repairing Stock 18" Wheels

I picked up my car from the dealer and noticed a nice chunk taken out of one of my wheels. I am positive it was not there before I brought it. They said they will have it fixed by their guy. I am wondering if "repairing" a damaged wheel will look ok and how do they do it? The scrape is not from a curb, about the size of a small grape and pretty deep around the outter rim of the wheel. I know it depends on how good the repair person is, but Im just curious and want want to know if anyone has had it done? Thanks in advance.

Re: Repairing Stock 18" Wheels

My two driver side wheels were badly damaged with cyrb rash. Not just scrapes but chunks out of the rim edge. My dealership (Chicago area) had a guy fix them at a cost of $120 per wheel, it took two days and the work is flawless. Hope that helps.

Re: Repairing Stock 18" Wheels

my rim was bent pretty good. so much so that the the tire couldnt hold any air. luckily for me, it happened on the inside of the rim, where you cant see. so it was fixed, but the body shop that fixed them, said he wouldnt be able to match the color and that it would be dificult finding somebody that could. so it looked like they used the same type of puttty that they use to fix dents on your car, but like i said, it wasnt visible. it was perfect except the color didnt match. but the previous poster said his came out flawless. i wonder how they were able to match the color? btw, i have the 18" wheels.

Re: Repairing Stock 18" Wheels

I messed my rim up (curb rash) pretty bad when I first had my car.
I took it back to the dealer because everyone I spoke with about the repair told me that the couldn't match the paint exactly, and I should consider having both wheels on the side of the car repainted so it would not be so obvious....

I wasn't about to paint a perfectly good rim, so my dealership had an on-sight rim repair place that fixed mine for about $140.....

as you can see, they did a great job of matching the paint, and I'm probably the only one who can tell where they repaired it.

Re: Repairing Stock 18" Wheels

My brand new G35C came home with a small and light
curbing on the rim too on one of the front wheels.

Is there such thing as wheel touchup paint that matches this
color?

I might check with Rota since they sell touchups for
wheels, but would rather just buy one at the dealer...

Re: Repairing Stock 18" Wheels

dealer repainted all 4 of my wheels after their car wash scratched 2 of em. color match is perfect. cost them 75$ a wheel. might pay off next time to ask them who does their wheel repair work and get it done urself. I am sure the dealership is making a profit with your 120$ repair. the wheel fixers are mobile, so they can come to your work or whatever

Re: Repairing Stock 18" Wheels

I bought some steel gray wheel touchup paint from
subydude today. He was one of my vendors from my
WRX days. Will give this a shot and see how well it
matches our factory wheel color. Will keep you posted.

Re: Repairing Stock 18" Wheels

bumping this thread so that it'll be easier for me to find it
later.

I received the rota steel gray touchup paint just now.
Will post later on tonight how well the paint matches
the 18's finish. I think the touch up might be alittle on the
darker side. from what i can see through the bottle....humm..

Re: Repairing Stock 18" Wheels

I tried the Rota touchup paint Steel Gray color last night
on my 18" with a minor curb rash (from the dealership).

The touch up comes with one base coat bottle and one
clear coat bottle each with its own brush cap like a nail
polish.

The color is a close, but a shade darker than the wheel.
But if you don't use the clear over the base coat, the finish
is pretty close. After I touched up and let it dry for about
30min, I used some polymer wax over it and polished it to
buff it in. Its hardly noticable from about 3ft away.

In the future, Im going to get some silver enamel paint
and mix a few drops in there before I touch it up to see if I can
get it to the right shade.

Why can't Infiniti just step up to the plate and get touchup paint for these wheels on the market? The demand is certainly there. I would pay $20 for a tube!

Re: Repairing Stock 18" Wheels

And you mean let Infiniti/Nissan go on without making a profit while they can repair and/or sell you a new wheel??and deprive them of them watching as you leave a bloody trail from the ridiculous amount you coughed up.....ha...ha

Re: Repairing Stock 18" Wheels

...same thing happened to me...my dealer tried to fix it and the color kept fading. When I finally requested that they replace the wheels, they denied responsibility. If I had it to do over again, I would file a police report, go through my insurance company and get my insurance company to subrogate since my deductible is zero.
