Running without the MAF sensor plugged in?
I changed the stock plugs on my 92k mi 2003 AT G with some NGK iridums. But I forgot to plug the MAF sensor in. I started it and revved it a few times, and noticed some misfire. Also the VCD and Check engine lights came on. I turned off the engine and then noticed the MAF sensor was not plugged in, so I plugged it in, and have driven 60 miles since. There is no more misfire and it runs smooth, but the check engine light is still on?? Other than that, I think so far I am getting better MPG with the iridiums

Disconnecting your battery is not going to clear that DTC. The OP will need the get a hold of an OBD2 reader that is capable of clearing DTCs or else go to the dealership. The dealership will likely want to do some kind of diagnostic procedure prior to clearing the code so it probably won't be free.

Yes disconecting the battery cable WILL clear the CEL for sure. Also you can do a ECU reset by:
1. Turning the IGN on to acc wait 3 seconds
2. press and release the gas pedal all the way 5 times within 5 second
3. now wait 7 seconds
4. now hold the gas pedal in for 10 seconds release the gas pedal for a second and then press it in again for 10 more seconds.
the timing is pretty critical on the first two steps so use i stop watch and you will have it down the first time. Also after doing this let your car idle for a good 10 min so it can kinda relearn everything.

It appears that I was wrong about being able to disconnect the battery to reset the CEL for this fault. My apologies to smokincoupe. I might have confused it with the DTC created by an airbag fault. It got me to thinking and I just went out and tested it. Started the engine with MAF sensor disconnected. Triggered CEL. Disconnected battery for 20 minutes. Restarted engine and CEL was gone. Sorry, my bad.

pumping the brakes isnt 100% neccasary but some do it. Its easier to touch the negative battery cable to the positive, doing so will discharge all strored voltage in the vehicle and computers but it wont ruin anything either
