car not starting!

i tried searching but its just not happening...anyways, i brought my car into a shop todai to get my compustar alarm installed. he parks my car in the install bay, and starts wiring the hood pin, trunk pin, and every other option for the compustar. so after a few hours of working (without cutting no wires or anything that would make the car not start), he tries to start it and nuthing happens. now i dunno if this would be the installers fault or not, but i have read on this forum that other ppl have had problems with the car not starting...so now im just wondering wat could be wrong. would i be blaming the installer or infiniti for making such a **** poor car that doesnt start sumtimes??

Re: car not starting!

"Car not starting" is too vague. There is only so much we can help you with. What are the other symptoms? What still works on the car? Horn, lights, radio, windows? What else doesn't work besides the starter? Does it try to crank? When you turn the key to the on position and hold it there, do you here the system "tests" being performed AKA the pre-flight check?

You can't blame infiniti for making a **** poor car. Times are changing. It's not like the old days where you could mess with the car like legos. These cars come so finely tuned from the factory, that it doesn't take much of a change for something to fall out of spec.

Re: car not starting!

The car started before the installer touched it? So, obviously something they did caused a problem and they are responsible for returning your car in operable condition after the install. Dont blame Infiniti, it is rated on the top of the charts for reliability.

Re: car not starting!

Very easy...If you drove it in you should be able to drive it our. Whatever they did something happened to cause it not to start.

Again... not enough info. Is it cranking? Do you have a manual or automatic? What exactly was installed? Remote start? Have you tried your spare key? Check all the "Ignition" fuses. Remove the two panels covering the battery and check the fuse box there. It should be about 8 clips total. Check the huge fusible link for the ignition. You will see two other fuses for the ABS system which are part of that link. The one all the way on the right is the ignition. It's a 40amp fuse. If it's blown, you have a short in your ignition system.

Re: car not starting!

If they were doing a remote start it is possible they let the car 'see' two keys at the same time. In some cars if it senses two keys around the ignition it erases them from the BCM. If this is the case the car will crank and MAY start and run for a few seconds but quickly die. Also, it may never start, just crank.

Is the car cranking? Also, there are TWO starter wires on this car, they might have gotten confused there and messed something up. They both NEED to be energized for a remote start.

Just to clear things up just because a car enters a shop under its own power doesn't mean it will leave under its own power. For exampe, some guy brought his truck into our bay. We had it all day installing a stereo (hu, amps, subs). When we went to back the car out it wouldn't start. In the end it was a bad starter. Remember, just because someone worked on your car last week you have no reason to blame him this week because your AC motor quit working! (thats happened more then once).

Re: car not starting!

If the car did 'see' two keys you are screwed. Once the transponder code is erased from the key you can't fix it with a reset, you need a consult I believe. Especilly if you lost both of your keys! Try using the Valet key, at least it will prevent them from having to tow the car away. Also, you might want to talk to your dealer, if they are close they MAY be willing to send a tech over to get the keys reprogrammed and then you can just have the shop pay them, since it is thier fault.

Re: car not starting!

I've read this method:

Insert the key and turn to the on position, hold for five seconds. Then turn the key to the off position. Hold for five seconds. Repeat that procedure again.

Re: car not starting!

If that method works then stealing these cars would be easy, just take the VIN number to a dealer and have a key cut. Enter the car and use that method to learn the stolen key and go.

I have heard of metods similar to that, but they require you to insert a programmed key for 5 seconds or whatever, then insert the key you want to program. On most cars if there are NO keys programmed you have to have the dealer do it.

Re: car not starting!

No, i don't think that method is for programming keys. I think it was for reseting the diagnostics if they get caught in a loop, warning lights don't turn off, etc.. Somewhere in the road side assistance material.
