I'm sorry for the newbie question, but can someone tell me what's the point of plenum spacer? Does it increase any hp or is it only for the sound? Is this particular mod only applies to G35? (I just haven't heard of plenum spacer, until I joined this forum).
Any chance it might trigger the dreaded (service engine soon) light?

I'm watching this thread too because it looks like we're heading in the same direction.

I'll have the same spacer in and by the looks of it the same intake mods... went HF stillen w/ Z tube and so far the sound is awesome. I think it was described as more beast.

The concern of course is that as I head towards a new exhaust / headers / HF cats I'm going to lose that inspiring tone... If I stay away from the straight test pipes and the Y pipe... and stick the nexus / stillen / Ingen Super SES together do I have a reasonable chance at keeping things under control? Granted- it's not ALL about sound... it's about performance first. Can we enjoy both?

I have had some good feedback on that before- any other thoughts?

As I understand it, the stock spacer is too small and starves the cylinders of air. By adding space btwn the upper and lower plenum you allow more air which in turn adds more power (about 10whp). Also they help prevent heat soak in the upper and lower plenum but that's only with the copper and isothermal spacers. And if you plan on getting a strut bar or keeping your engine cover, the 5/16 is the one you want. 1/2 plenum spacer adds 1-2hp more than the 5/16 but you wont be able to use your engine cover. I haven't seen anyone getting a CEL and you get a meaner growl from the hood. It's a win/win. This mod applies to VQ35DE engines so G35,350z,m35,fx35

Theres more info on the MD website.

Yes plenum spacers are a breathing mod for the engine and they do increase hp but its no turbo thats for sure.
Basically just a starting mod along with intake, exhaust etc
And it does make the car louder

Nooo, you don't want a Borla system! That was my second exhaust and I was totally disappointed in sound and quality. Stillen/HKS don't cost any more than Borla and their dual systems a light years better! Concerned about cost, check our MARKETPLACE for sponsors prices....make a few calls. Forget Borla....do yourself a favor!

bro if u go cheapie with ur expensive car ur gonna get a cheapie performance car that looks good, granted u dont go cheapie with the exterior also! Cmong that ebay exhaust? Thats the HKS knockoff and it sucks. If u buy a dual exhaust for $300s good luck. I personally think knockoffs or cheap stuff from ebay is horrible. Either save money to buy true legit quality parts or dont buy anything at all. Save yourself even more money and buy some pipes n weld em on ur exhaust if ur gonna be cheap.

some people have been satisfied with the hks knockoff but its not t304, its a cheaper material. if you were to get it i'd say get rid of it within a few months and avoid salt/snow. have read that it rusts bad, especially the tips.

Well your mostly paying for the months of research and development that HKS put in to make the exhaust. What this ebay company did was take an un patented design and copy it, I think id rather spend 300 instead of 1500. The tips I agree are **** but you can get replacements for 80 bucks. The exhaust does rust after a while but after about two heavy winters or so usually and for the price you can change it out about 3 or 4 times for the price of one HKS exhaust. Plus you never know what can happen to your car, it can get totaled and kiss your exhaust good bye. Im just not willing to pay that much more for 3 letters on my exhaust.

I don't like the sound of stillen, I've listened countlessly on youtube for a good sounding exhaust, and the best were hks, nismo, borla, and bassani.

Hks is awesome but wayyy too expensive. Nismo is like stock just louder. Bassani is very exotic. And borla is very deep.

I listened to Stillen on youtube vids, sounds raspy as hell, I want a deep tone. Something that says I mean business, not just I'm loud and obnoxious.

I'm basically between bassani, borla, and nismo.

Borla is beast, but a little american sounding. Bassani is beast but a little exotic. And nismo is well stock gone beast haha.

I listened to the Fast Intentions, I dunno don't like it. Bit too muffled. Deep, but too muffled. Reminds me of a pontiac V6 'performance' exhaust.
