lug nuts loosening

i slapped on my oem 17's today and for the 2nd winter, the lugs come loose after a short distance of driving. i had to pull over and retighten every single nut like 5 times before.

i have a 1st gen coupe 6mt. my oem 19 lugs never loosened by itself. i bought the oem 17's off a 2nd gen sedan sport. he gave me the lugs with them and that's the lugs that are currently on the wheels now and the ones that are loosening by itself.

or these lugs not right for the 1st gen coupes? they're longer compared to the lugs on my 19's. can someone with a 1st gen take a pic of the nuts they're using with their oem 17's? this is driving me nuts and i won't be able to make it to work come monday if i don't find out what's the problem. any help is really appreciated.

basically, are the lug nuts for a 2nd gen sedan sport different for a 1st gen coupe sport for oem 1st gen 17's?

Not sure on the answer to your question, but why don't you just use the lugs from your 19's?

because i used the wheel locks from my 19s and one of them flew off while driving on my 17s

the length should have no issue - i'm guessing you have lugs that are too large in thread diameter for the wheel studs - try measuring them both and see

I don't think the lengh matters, but i'm not sure. Are you sure your tightening it enough? Hand tight usually doesn't do it, get a breaker bar and tighten it good. Or if you have tq wrench, tighten to OEM spec and see how it goes. Im pretty sure your not tighten it enough.

He did say his lockers for his 19" flew off of his 17s. It sounds like something is up with the holes for the studs on the 17s? I mean, if they 19s work fine with any lugs, and the 17s will loosen any lugs, sounds like it's something with the rim and not the nuts. IMO, of course.

You need to verify the thread are the same on lug/nut, and length does matter if the nut isn't long enough for the 17'". Installing our wheels should be done with a torq wrench set at 85 LBS! Over tightening will result in warped calipers, you don't need that.

based on his post - going from a shorter to a longer lug doesn't matter - going the opposite way definitely could be an issue.

also - is warped caliper a typo? do you mean rotor?

Did you torque them down properly? That would be my only guess on why they keep getting loose.
