Engine Rebuild
Had some bad knocking in the engine that started about a month ago. Took it too Nissan and all they literally said "you need a new engine". Not telling me anything else. Looked over my options and made sure it wasn't any small or stupid problem causing. Finally decided to get it rebuilt. Dropped it off the other day to Altered Atmosphere and am having them do their stage 1 high compression rebuild. Hoping for a good experience and some extra power, and o yea no knocking

Just curious, if you don't mind me asking, what is that going to cost you. I had a 69 GTO engine rebuilt recently....but its a totally differenent engine then the G35 obviously. Is there engine going to be balanced and blueprinted?
how many extra ponies are the little girls going to get to see out of this anyways?

Yea they balance and blueprint it. They definitely have the right equipment to do a quality job too. As far as price, i'm sure its way way different then a GTO rebuild. I talked to a friend of mine who has had plenty of big blocks rebuilt and it sounds like its much less. Basically my options of what to do were: 1. New factory engine (quoted 10,600 installed from nissan) 2. Used engine (quoted 7,800 installed from nissan) 3. Jasped rebuilt motor (6,350 not installed) 4. Have AAM rebuild it (gonna cost me 8,800).....Basically i was screwed no matter what.
The plus about the AAM rebuild was first of all people that were familiar with the engine doing it. Also I'm gonna have a built engine. HP gains im not really sure what to expect. If i had more money to do a few more supporting mods they said the engine could make ~300+ rwhp which is like 70 over stock. I'm not even as concerned about the gains now, but with it built it allows me the option to go FI without much headache. Its got upgraded connecting rods, pistons and a few other things so it will be able to handle putting out 500-550 hp in the future.

sounds like a solid build. with the extra balancing and blue printing your redline will technically be higher then its stock...probably around 500 rpms higher i would guess. My GTO engine rebiuld was around $8000 but that also included a tranny rebuild and a couple other things, basically the rebuild itself was around 6K the rest wasn't engine specific.
If you have the cash, putting some headers on when putting the engine back in would be a good idea. It might unlock some more horsepower and have a great sound.
Sucks that you had to rebuild the engine. But now that car will run like a charm.
