Trade '04 AT for '05 MT? What do u think?
Trade '04 AT for '05 MT? What do u think?
You guys think its worth it to trade my '04 AT (every option but nav) for an '05 MT. If you wondering why i didnt get an MT in the first place, its cuz my G was a gift. Sooooooooo i had no choice. But the extra 15+ and an MT makes me drool. I want one so damn bad. But....do you guys think its worth it to pay the difference or just stick to my AT? What kind of difference can I expect to pay for an '05 MT (everything but nav)? And those of you with MT who have also driven an AT, is it ALOT more fun or just more fun?

My financial genius tells me you are being foolish to trade a new car so soon. I suspect that since the car was a gift that losing 10-20% on a trade may not matter to you though. If that is the case, do whatever makes you happy...either way you will have a great car.
The 6 speed is a hoot to drive but my AT is so much easier to drive on city streets.

Instead of wasting 5K+ on the trade, get your G a supercharger/turbo setup for the same price. You will get more for the money and will appreciate your G better than a 5AT to 6MT trade.

Omar, I was going to do the same thing when I first had my 5AT.
I got the itch for a manual, but trading in the car at that time with less than 6,000 miles, it would have cost me close to $9,000 for an upgrade to 6MT and Nav......
I would say if you could sell your car privately for some good dollars, then maybe you could lessen the difference some.....
Otherwise, I would say don't do it.....wait for another year and who knows what you might decide to buy......

If the difference is also paid for by the 'gift' then I say go for it.
I was thinking about a trade scenario as well.. mostly because of the new 19" forged wheels, 18+hp, MP3 player and the new interior with ash scheme. Then again, they are not making a Caribbean Blue 2005 so forget it. Besides, I put way too much time and energy into my 2003 already. (yet it still looks bone stock)

If he was trading in just for the +15 hp, I would say what you guys are saying which is get some perf mods. However, since it's also an opportunity to get a 6mt vs AT, I would say do it! The 6mt is a lot of fun to drive (of course this assumes you enjoy driving and not regularly stuck in stop/go traffic). Given the strong resale value of the coupe and I'm guessing since he's even considering the trade that the loss in $$ is not as big a deal to him as it is to some of you.
Re: Trade '04 AT for '05 MT? What do u think?
I am in the same exact boat (I am every year, sigh). I am not even going for the 15hp difference. I want a new color, nav, and of course the 6 speed tranny (main reason). 5K? I wish LOL, I would trade in my car tommorow... we are looking at more like a 10-12k trade in hit.
figure about 6-7K difference for the car, another 3K tax and luxury, payments already made to the car.. and so on. Maybe I will just go for it in Jan 05 around my b-day. If it's going to make me happy, it's gotta be worth it =)

Re: Trade '04 AT for '05 MT? What do u think?
15hp at the crank is nothing... You probably won't even notice it..only eye popping to spec racers at book stores...
But, if you seriously want to get a MT car, I would do it regardless of how much you might 'loose' during the trade. It's not a loss if you think it's worth it. And to me, I think the
change is very much worth it.

Re: Trade '04 AT for '05 MT? What do u think?
I'd recommend taking the ~$6000 IN CASH to the dealership. Take the 2005 6MT for a very long test drive and then go back to the dealership. Hop in your 5AT and go for a very long drive. Head back to the dealership and then lay the $6000 CASH out on the table, make sure it's fanned out nicely. Stare at the money and your car and then look at the 6MT. Only then will you know what is the best decision for YOU.
$6000 will go a long way to provide "happiness". Some would prefer the additional 100rwhp that a S/C will provide. Others might decide to invest it, while others prefer rims, suspension, etc... In the end it's your money and you have to live with the decision. Me, if my car was paid for, FI here I come! (then again I have a 2004.5 6MT.)
The above statements are only my take on the issue. If you disagree with anything I typed then you are 100% right!
