Side Door Panel Protetors
Side Door Panel Protetors
Does anyone have Door panels protectors on their coupe. I don't see alot of them out there. i know its an aftermarket thing, but i'm trying to figure out if i should get it. i've been getting some f'cked up door dings. Do you guys think it looks good or not? Or should i just ***** it up with the door dings?
Re: Side Door Panel Protetors
If your reffering to door edge guards(vertical) then they will protect the edges of your door from you or someone else opening your door into something, They do not offer protection from other peoples doors into yours, For protection against dings you should install the oem door side moldings(horizontal) from infiniti, They look the best and somewhat blend into the lines of the car with out looking akward.I was a little iffy on getting them but there worth not having to look at door dings.
Re: Side Door Panel Protetors
IMO the door panel protectors detract from the beauty of the car. I'm all for the sleek, just out of the water look. I know what you mean about the door dings, that's why I park a mile away or drive my I30 which I'm in a rush.

Re: Side Door Panel Protetors
I've heard that the horiz. molding strips are a little too low to effectively block door dings. I think it looks OK though.
Lately, my Honda has gotten A LOT of door dings on the right side. Drivers who park next to me are just throwing their doors out. People are f*cking so disrepectful and stupid.

Re: Side Door Panel Protetors
yeah, i guess, the horizontal door guards look kinda funky on our coupes. Have anyone gotten their door dings removed before?

or... you could go to pepboys and buy some small body side molding and a can of bumper paint that matches your car. On the way home, stop by Office Depot and get magnetic business card holders. (sticky on one side, magnetic on the other).
Cut the strip to desired length, taper the ends. Peel the adhesive off the strips. Paint.. trim and apply several card holders. Then throw it in your trunk for times when you cant get a perfect spot. Cost? <$20. Do they work? Debatable, I dont want to find out, but the would offer temporary protection at 1/10 the cost of OEM strips (about the same size).
Be sure to store flat.

Re: Side Door Panel Protetors
thanks.. plus since youre just throwing them on for a few mins, you can position them a bit higher than the OEM ones, perhaps giving a tad more protection.
I just made one. Have used it at a hotel parking lot. I think there was even a bad storm and it didnt budge. Just have to be careful not to slide it on the door when removing. The magnets are soft but any dirt already on the door could leave some fine scratches. I havent had that problem tho, as I try to keep the car clean to begin with.

Re: Side Door Panel Protetors
it would if your car was really dirty and you slid it around on the door. But no, the magnets are not sharp/hard at all. I think they are coated and made to go on fridges and such. You can easily line it with electrical tape if you want added protection, but I didnt find that necessary with the magnets I found. I usually run my hand down the strip before popping it on there to make sure nothing is on the magnets from the trunk. But in all, it stays pretty clean back there..
Re: Side Door Panel Protetors
I used to have a Ford Probe GT (I can hear you laughing!). It was one of the rare ones without the side bumper strips and I just loved the way it looked. I spent about $300, at $50 a pop, having door dings constantly being taken out. When I bought my 6MT coupe, I only got two options; the trunk mat and the door protectors.
Personally, I think the coupe looks a little slab sided without the strips there. To my eye, I like the way it gives the side view a little character. I still park away from people when I can, but if it's unavoidable, I'm glad the strips are there. No dings yet, and I'm sure it's not because people are being more respectful when opening their doors.
