Rubber and more rubber questions

Thanks in advance for answering my question, which is regarding selection of tires.

Currently I have a set of Winter tires on my car on a set of 17" wheels, but for my summer wheels i need new tires. I have the oem rays 19" forged wheels and currently have michelin pilot PS2 tires on there. The only problem is that the rear tires have just over 2/32" tread left and the fronts still have about 6 or 7/32's left.

Because of the high price on the pilots, i am leaning towards replacing them with a different tire but with a similar quality and higher tread rating. Obviously they will not be as grippy, but I am fine with that, as I never track the car and only occasionally engage in 'spirited driving'.

Right now I am looking at purchasing either the continental extremecontact DW or the Hankook ventus V12 evo K110 or the Kumho Ecsta SPT tires. They are all around $200 or less, with exception of the continental, however they have a slightly higher tread wear rating so i ok with it.

I don't want to spend anything more then the continental tires are ($221) and at the same time i want something with quality. Any other tire reccomendations?

Also, is it ok to mix and match front and rear tires as I will be doing, or do I have to have the same front and rears? what would the consequences if any be of mixing tires?

all the brand you have up there are good stuff - not the best but good,
front and rear don't have to be the same brand - just the same performance category

i assume you don't do 100mph around the bend??? - it's ok to mix and match

BFG g force kdw new tread. I saw better traction with those than the ps2's. mixing front and back is fine, as long as you have the same tread and treadwear on the same axle.

Well lets say I wanted to do 100 MPH around the bend? will mixing tires actually change anything? I rarely ever even hit 100 MPH in a straight line, speeding tickets are double in Manitoba then any state I have ever been in. basically if you get caught doing even 10 MPH over (about 16 KMH) it is a $200 ticket. My buddy in Colorado got a $200 for doing 20 MPH over.

I want something that still performs well, but at a reasonable price.

^^^op

for example i run yokoham fronts on 19" rays 245 35 19
rear falken 452 245 40 19

same footprint front back - so i make sure the falken better tires (summer) are the rear tire brands

if i ran smaller footprint front then the rear could have been the other way around and that is ok as the rear is more traction from larger foot

well I will be Keeping the Stagger from Front to Back. I'm planning on staying with the stock 245 Rear, unless you guys suggest i should go Bigger? It is just the oem wheel, how wide of a tire can it handle? I have heard 255? but is that really safe to run or do some people just do it?

Got Rubber....good rubber?

You could use 245s front and rear without any issues since they'll be on your '06 OEM coupe wheels. You could run different tires front and back, I did that for a while cause I actually had some tread left on my b-stones. The BFG's mentioned are good tires but so are the Continentals....either one will work for ya....just not like the PS2s!

You will hate the SPTs they tend to feather very quickly and they get loud. The conti's are a good quiet tires but if you like to take curves fast than I would not get those. I would get the Hankooks. I have heard nothing but Good comments about these tires. I have personally spoken to my customer in regards to there reviews about these tire and more and what I have stated is exactly what my customers have said.

hmmm. thats odd, i would think the continentals would be the best of the bunch i chose for performance. according to tirerack.com (the site i will be buying off of) they say the bf goodwrench are loud.

How much difference in traction and control should i expect between the pilots and the continentals? i'm leaning towards the continentals right now, but i guess well see.

Since I know i can swap tires out, any other tire reccomendations?

I would definitely go with the Hankooks over any other choices you mentioned.

Another tire to look at is the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta. Phenomenal tire at a great price. PM Joker if you have any questions about these. He has them and loves them.

I'm also running Hankook Ventus V12s all the way around. They are a very nice compound tire and pretty sticky compared to others. I wouldn't run them in snow, that's for sure. They are an aggressive tire and tread pattern.
