All i drive my car in is the manual mode, i NEVER drive in d and push my car so much and take it to redline and downshift all of the time, no problems and it isnt "bad" for the engine if used properly.

haha, I've heard two things -

1. The 5AT is bulletproof and it will last forever
2. The 5AT is crap and can't take any additional torque/power

It depends on who you talk to I guess. But, from my experiance, the 5AT is a very durable tranny. If yours ever does fail, I have one sitting in my garage for sale! (I have a 6MT)

No, I had the opportunity to buy a cheap VQ engine with the only catch being I had to buy the 5AT with it. I really wanted the engine so I bought them both. The car had 7500 miles on it when it was totalled.

I've heard that anytime you downshift it puts a lot of wear on the the transmission (auto or manual) and you should try to do that as least as possible. However, replacing a clutch is a lot cheaper than replacing an auto. Again, I don't know for sure, just what I've read on here (take that for what it's worth).

I've got a 5at too, I can't imagine playing with the gears all the time though, guess I'm just lazy.

I've heard only good things about our A/T's. Apparantly they are the same box that's used in the Q-45, so I'd say it has the 'parts' to last.

As far as shifting in manual mode all the time.....shouldn't be an issue so long as it's done within the guidelines.
Might not render quite as good gas mileage as it would in 'D', but who cares.....it's more fun.

Enjoy
Colin.
