Does you local service dept. allow outside oil?

Hey everyone,

Time is coming for me to change my oil and get some scheduled maintainance.

I was wondering if your local Nissan/IInfiniti service department allowed you to bring in your own oil like the Mobil 1 Synthetic? I would do it myself but don't have the time...

I was told by my local service department that they would have to use the factory recommended Nissan oil.

*NOTE: I live on the Big Island of Hawaii with no Infiniti dealership (the only one is on another island in Honolulu) and only 2 Nissan dealerships that work on the G for routine maintainance and fly in an Infiniti tech for more complicated problems. So, I can't call other Infiniti service depts....

Yeah, it shouldn't be a problem. I just had my first oil change today (break-in is finally DONE!!) and the guy used my Mobil 1 that was in the trunk. Well, it took them 2 tries as the first time the mechanic totally missed the sign on the paper. So I got an engine flush for free.. yay.

Leeno, how many miles do you have on your car?
I've heard that you should wait until at least 6000 miles before switching to syn. oil

I have almost 1500 miles.

P_Diddy, why is that? I don't see any formal proof from anywhere that I should still be using conventional oil. Synthetic oil is much better at performing under heavy load and high temps. The master tech at Infiniti didn't say anything.. he actually said that it's the best oil I can use. Plus, my girlfriend's father who's been driving since god knows when won't use anything other than Mobil 1 w/Supersyn.. I'm ready to break the sound barrier NOW.. let me do so without any arguments!!!
