Best thing to do is try on a few and see what you like best. While safety is of most importance, so is comfort.
I have a Bell Helmet. I chose it because the lining is quite plush. Gives a nice comfy snug fit. It breathes well while still being tight enough to protect properly. Some others I've tried use harder foam liners that just fine, but had way too many pressure points for my liking. It felt like when they pumped up my football helmet in high school too tight. A comfortable helment allows you to stay better focused on driving which is also important for safety.

u want to use the helmet for autoX and race track right...

my friend told me that the bike helmet are design to only
hit once when u crash
the car helmet are design to hit a few times cos of
small space inside the car
also don't drop ur helmet ....!!!

It all depends on your head......some people with a $50.00 head, go out and buy a $50.00 helmet.
Seriously, helmets fit differently. I can't wear an Arai, but my Shoei fits like a glove. Go try on some quality ones and fine the one that fits you best.....& don't by junk.

Agreed. Make sure it's Snell approved, and try them all on. Stick to the top brands like Arai or Shoei. When you watch the pros racing their bikes around a track at 150 mph, they've all got Arais and Shoeis.
Don't order anything via internet until you've tried it on. Put it on and walk around the shop for 20 minutes to see where the pinch/pain points are. I ride with a Shoei TZ-1...there are better, but it's a good value. After 90 minutes it starts to hurt my ear lobes. When I wear an Arai, I can't even tell it's on my head, but that's the diff between a $200 and a $500 helmet.

Re: what kind of helmets do u guys have?
I use the Arai gp5K. It's a little on the spendy side but it's very light. Good advice above regarding trying them on and that you only have 1 head.
Re: what kind of helmets do u guys have?
I went to a local motorsports shop and tried on helmets, and the Bell M3 just felt right -- and was in my price range (~$300). I like it because it's a full face helmet but has a larger than average eye port, allowing for better peripheral vision (and I don't do any open-cockpit driving). It's not as light as some more expensive helmets but fits me well.
I suppose after spending the better part of an hour or so trying on helmets I could have gone home and ordered one online, but I didn't for a couple reasons. First, even among helmets of identical model and size, there were noticable variations in fit and comfort. Second, although I could have saved 20 or 30 bucks ordering online, I felt a bit funny about trying on every helmet in the place, and then leaving to order elsewhere. I have no problem with someone who does (it's a free country and all that) but to me it just seemed wrong. Plus, I may see the shop owner at the track sometime, and I need all the support I can get. . .

Re: what kind of helmets do u guys have?
i was just thinking of getting the bell M3 too but i cant seem to find any motorsport stores around the area that sell them( i live in SW VA). most of the stores around here cater to the biker more than autocrossers.
Also i was wondering where you got your bell M3 from cause most of them retail for $430+.

Re: what kind of helmets do u guys have?
Whoops! It helps if I actually look at what I own before I post. Obviously I'm no helmet expert, as you'll see. What I have is the Bell M2, not the M3, which explains the price difference you're finding. The M2 (with the larger eyeport, but heavier than the M3) sells for around $300, and the M3 for $430+ like you're finding.
I'm a long way from SW VA (in Portland, OR), but the best way to find a good motorsport shop in your area might be to contact your local AutoXers. Or, you could try the Sports Car Club of America website. You can probably find a Virginia regional site with someone to call or email for info about good shops in your area.

Re: what kind of helmets do u guys have?
Here's mine from my university days when I used to ride a sportbike.
We got the stickers at a local meet... I decided to slap one on my helmet since now I only use it to track the G ;-)
