Get up to 3000 rpm, then let the gas fully out, clutch fully in, grab the shift ***, while kinda pulling it towards yourself pull straight back, as everyone else said do it slowly, don't try doing if quick until you get the hang of it. Now that the *** is in second give it a bit of gas and slowly let out the clutch. Rinse and repeat for the other gears. When going to third gear push the *** up, let it center on its own, then push it straight up you will be right in third. After you have mastered all that, you should read up on rev matching.
Happy Driving.

Well, unless you want to race, 3rd gear is usually useless anyway,

I dont like to shift so when i drive a manuel i usually go 1-2-4 just push 2nd a bit then shift to 4

My G35 was my second manual car and it was like I didn't know how to drive it at all... I didn't really miss gears, but the clutch took a long time getting used to.. Even now I get lazy and let the car jerk a little.

G35 is definitely a hard car to learn stick shift on; it's a lot less forgiving when it comes to timing the shifts right and trying to get it smooth. Of all the manual cars I've driven (and I've driven a LOT), G35 is hands down the roughest.. At least mine is.

I noticed that when I'm speed shifting, I pull the shifter just as I start depressing the clutch so the shifter is moving into neutral just as the clutch is fully depressed, and I'll hold the clutch there for a split second and drop it when I let go of the shifter to turn my hand for the next shift.

Id suggest doing what I did. I started manual in a 95 integra and learned basics plus some advanced techs such as burnouts, drifting, 180 turns, and so on. After the acura died on me. I bought the G and just took my skills to it and most of the people I drive around dont even notice the car was stick untill they me shifting or I tell them about it. Also I bought a 85 corolla for about 400 as my mess around car so the G stays in perfect condition.

The G35 was my first manual transmission, it wasn't hard to learn but sometimes I still jerk going from a stop and when I shift from 1st to 2nd. I take my time shifting though, and don't try to do anything stupid or too fast. But I did stall it and burn the clutch a good number of times when I first started learning. Comes with the territory.

I get nervous sometimes because everybody here acts like the G35 transmission is made of glass. Like if you stall it or grind gears a couple times in the process of learning then you definitely have a busted transmission in your future. I'd hope Nissan makes transmissions a bit more stout than that.

I will first agree that speed shifting is definitely not a good thing for the car on a regular basis and I will not deny that. But in response to your post, I know you will gain more than a tenth out of it at the track.

The other week I went down to Cecil County MD for a test and tune and was trying to get a 13 sec slip since I ran 14.05 @ 102.mph stock (current mods are Popcharger and HR y-pipe, also had on the heavy winter wheels with Blizzaks the last time down). I made 31 passes that day, which I think is more than enough data to prove my point.

Out of the first 28 passes, I couldn't get better than 14.0-14.1. The last 3 passes of the day I decided to speed shift (which I don't like to do) so I can get that 13 sec slip. All 3 passes were in the 13's with a best of 13.79. I think 14.0-14.1 dropping down to 13.79 is a bit more than "less than a tenth".

My first MT car was a 5sp 240sx [I stay in the nissan family =) ] I missed the 3rd gear for the first week thinking that there wasn't one. I taught my self how to drive stick.. I figured that the 5th speed was reverse.. =X but I don't understand how you miss second.. it's just straight down from first.

I had the same problem, then I replaced the clutch with exedy oem, solved that problem right away. =)

Gotta learn to walk well before you can run.

Practice shifting with the car off. Just sit in the car (WITH THE ENGINE OFF) and start shifting from 1st through 6th, and then back to 1st. Remember to press the clutch pedal down. Get a feel for it and see where your hand position should be during each shift.
