J_P is exactly right. I took a drive in my friends Integra Type R last weekend and I felt like I was in a Ferrari because when they made the Type R they removed much of the soundproofing to reduce weight. Our cars have all of the insulation of the larger luxury makes but in a performance car. It's definitely an illusion.

I also noticed a similar difference with turbocharged cars. I used to own a Volvo C70 HPT 5spd and it felt very fast compared to the G but I raced my own car (with one of my friends driving it) when I had them at the same time and the G absolutely smoked the C70. It's a very false sense of power compared to the feel of a powerful N/A car. I think alot of this comes from the fact that it's just a plain 5cyl until the turbo kicks in so there is a huge contrast giving the feel of added power whereas in a N/A car the power is always there... just a thought.
