Washed car, water got into driver side footwell

I recently had a sound system installed in my car and I am guessing the line that goes from the battery to the amp required the installer to make some sort of puncture in the firewall? After I washed my car there was some water on my drivers side floor mat, probably 2" in diameter. What should I do?

Yes, I had this same problem. Installers drilled through my firewall and did not seal it properly. Not my driver side floor gets wet when I wash it or it rains.

Find a grommet at your hardware store that will seal it or silicone it for a more permanent fix.

Is siliconing it something I could do myself? The most I have ever done mechanically is change the sparkplugs on my G, lol. I assume the silicone just comes in a tube?

Yep. But I'd recommend trying to find a grommet first. If you can't, then use silicone.

I'd try Home Depot, Lowes, Ace, etc., too.

Will a grommet wrap around the wire and cover the hole? Or do I have to remove the wire, insert the grommet, then run the wire through the grommet again?

man...I would take it back to the installer, and then never go back cause they suck. If you want to do it yourself you will need to follow the wire from the battery to find where they drilled into the firewall, you can buy a rubber bushing that will slide over the wire and seal the hole. good luck
this is what you need. http://www.crutchfield.com/g_183750/...s.html?tp=1283 you can get it at any car stereo shop.

you will have to disconnect the wire from the battery

I'm betting they just peeled back the large grommet where the main harness comes through the firewall and just pushed the wires through the side of it. That's what happened to me. I winded up taking off the cover under the windshield wiper arm and puncturing the grommet, fished my wires through then used silicone to seal up around the wires/puncture in the grommet.
