PLZ HELP: IS ENGINE HEAT NORMAL?
PLZ HELP: IS ENGINE HEAT NORMAL?
As i was coming home last night my cousin pointed out that there is Hot ait coming out from the A/C vents. I did not turn my A/C on my windows were down but as i was driving fast the hot ait was coming in from the Vents. Then i got home poped the hood and there is hot air coming form the engine. No smoke or anything like that just feel the hot air. Also, there was hot air coming from the exhuast.
I was revin high and going pretty fast. Maybe this could cause the hot air? Any Advise?

Re: PLZ HELP: IS ENGINE HEAT NORMAL?
Burning a gallon of gasoline in an engine creates ~~120,000 BTU of heat only 25-28% is converted into moving the car. The rest is radiated out the radiator, radiated from the engine block or sent out the exhaust pipe.
Like having 7 electric space heaters under the hood.
In Summer 160-180F under the hood is normal pretty much what the coolant temperature is 180-200F.

Dude what you just asked is like asking, "Is it supposed to be cold inside my freezer???"
It's an engine...relies on heat (explosions) just to operate dude.
As for the air coming in from the vents, that's so you can breathe. Most cars nowadays are pretty air-tight so the only effective way to get oxygen into the car (so you can drive your car without suffocating to death) is by venting air into the cabin, even if your climate control settings are completely shut off.
The only thing I'm not sure about is the fact that the air was HOT. The air might be warm but it shouldn't actually be hot...the engine heat is what makes the air hot, but usually the climate control system (even when it's off) does something to cool the air off a bit so you don't bake.

If the outside air is at or below 60F the inside vent air might be 68F or higher. Much higher ambient and you have to open windows or use AC............each car varies a few degrees as to the need for AC point.

yeah the same issue occurs for me, the cabin is a b*tch to be in when you're gunning the car with the windows up and AC off...gets so god damn hot in there.
I guess its really b/c the G does not have a good venting system.
