2004 vs. 2004.5
Just by the dials, that's at least an 05 (so the rev limits are different than an 04). Check the clock in the centre console as well, if it's integrated with the temp gauge etc it's an 05. The 04 clock was outside and below.
Also, the 04 and 04.5 both had the same VQ35DE (with same HP and TQ) and not the VQ35HR (rev up) which came out in 05. The 05 also had rev matching which the 04 didn't, along with a lot of other stuff.

it was still a vq35de
The interior is definitely an 05 and not an 03 (doors, console, cluster, etc). I don't know if it's possible to completely rebuild the interior of an 03 to an 05 but it would be ridiculously expensive - and a lot of labour.
Do you think it's possible the VIN was (illegally) swapped from an 03 to this car? Do you know it's history for certain ?

I spoke to the guy I bought my car from and he told me I have the rev-up engine and that it was replaced by Infiniti. He said some 2004.5 models have it and some dont. He was a mechanic at an Infiniti dealer so he knows his G35's, this is also why he was able to practically do an 07 conversion to the car.
Supposedly, at least from the list of Infiniti technical publications, the '04 coupes (which could have been built in 2003) had VIN #'s up to 800000, and the 04.5's were supposedly from 800001 and up. I had read that the 04.5's were made after July '04, but perhaps that's not correct - maybe it is just the VIN #'s >800001.
