2004 vs. 2004.5

I was just browsing Cobb's website and they made mention that they have a different map for 2003-2004 and 2004.5. Is there a mid year change?

I just picked up an '04 a month ago and I'm wondering what the differences might be.

I purchased a 2004.5 6mt not too long ago, I was wondering if the engine is a rev-up or non-rev up? Some differences I see from my car to a regular 2004 is that I dont have a tape player, I have the 19" Rays w/ brembos

I don't think that's a 2004.5-- I have one (coupe, 6spd, Brembo brakes) and I have a tape player and 18" OEM rims (19" were not an option). It's a non rev-up motor, 280HP (redline is 6500RPM). 2005 is a rev-up. What is red-line on your tach? If it's 7000 or higher, you have a rev-up (and a 2005 or later).

I dont know if they were originally on the car because I also have 07 tail lights, spoiler, front bumper and Bluetooth. My steering wheel and gauge console also moves electrically not manually.
Wow you got the best of both worlds

I spoke to the guy I bought my car from and he told me I have the rev-up engine and that it was replaced by Infiniti. He said some 2004.5 models have it and some dont. He was a mechanic at an Infiniti dealer so he knows his G35's, this is also why he was able to practically do an 07 conversion to the car.

Just by the dials, that's at least an 05 (so the rev limits are different than an 04). Check the clock in the centre console as well, if it's integrated with the temp gauge etc it's an 05. The 04 clock was outside and below.

Also, the 04 and 04.5 both had the same VQ35DE (with same HP and TQ) and not the VQ35HR (rev up) which came out in 05. The 05 also had rev matching which the 04 didn't, along with a lot of other stuff.

My car is definitely a 2004 and it has the rev up motor for sure. I think the previous owner just put the stuff in there and swapped the motors. He was a mechanic for Infiniti.

I'm talking stock only - not moded. I think the OP was asking about the difference between stock 04 and 04.5.

Can you post pics of your console area?

No 04.5 models had the rev-up engine from the factory. That was strictly a 2005 model change, so it was a modification done by the mechanic.
