My clutch is slipping, and Im ready to replace it.
My mechanic quoted me 250 for labor to replace it.. does this sound fair??
I have to buy the parts myself tho.
Im thinking about ordering an Exedy clutch kit from partsgeek.com
The kit doesnt include the flywheel, and the price is 260.
I would have to purchase a new flywheel seperately.
I should be spending around 600-700 all together for the replacement in total.
Does this sound reasonable to you guys?
Im a car newb, and I dont want to get ripped off....
Any advice would be greatly appreciated..
If you know of a good, cheap after market clutch kit, please chim in
Thanks

exedy, 250 is really reasonable, make sure you replace everything, might as well while your in there.

$250 is an excellent price for labor. At 85K miles, you really should replace the flywheel while you're in there.

I just paid 340 for labor but I got my ACT clutch/flywheel combo for only $450 so I cant complain. Happy so far.

I got the Pro Lite........a Litte noisy when it warms up but really not that bad. Performance makes up for the noise. Feels like the car is launching rather them just pulling.Originally Posted by Deepdiver

so i dont think my clutch is slipping after all..
I did the tranny test where you put the car is a higher gear while driving slow to see if the rpms jump.. but they didnt....
So whats wrong with my G?
Its slugggish...
It doesnt pick up speed like a normal G. Theres no power when i floor it.. it just gradually increases in speed..NOT normal.
Could sparkplugs be the culprit?
Ive used the gas fuel injector mix.
Ive changed the air filter..
Whats the deal here....

That being said, was the car at a decent RPM in 6th gear? You can't expect your car to generate enough grunt to make the clutch slip at like 1500RPM. If you do the 6th gear test, you'll have to be doing like 80mph to get your motor up to about 3000RPM. I'd use 5th gear, it'll just as likely slip in 5th and you'll be able to get the RPM's up into the power band to really test the clutch.

Side question here, how exactly do you know when your clutch is 'slipping'? I've never experienced (atleast I don't think I have) this issue so I don't know how it feels.

Generally you'd experience this when there is extra stress on the car (like going up a hill or WOT).
It will usually happen in the higher gears and you'll see your RPMs raise pretty quickly, but your car will not be picking up speed at the same rate.

could oil in my spark plugs cause this sluggishness?
When I was changingm my oil, i noticed that there was very little oil coming out as i was draining it....
