I crashed my baby =(

As the title suggests I crashed my 04 g35 coupe. I was driving and accidentally dozed off right into a traffic pole.

I've scoured the internet and this website for any relevant occurrences, and I am shocked to find so many incidents that lead to deaths. I'm just really glad I wasn't going so fast, and the traffic pole itself was made with new technology that absorbs impact.

I am wondering if anybody went through this before, and if so, or anyone else could share any knowledge on what's going to happen. I got a ticket for reckless driving and I'm not sure what to expect.

In my defense, this took place in the middle of nowhere at around 3 a.m. without any sleep for more than 24 hours prior. I know I shouldn't have been driving but work called for it.

Another interesting part of the story is that I took my car into the shop for an estimate. It turned out to be 18 grand, 13 grand of which is for parts alone. Upon my own research through craiglist, ebay, forums, and etc.. I brought down the price for parts to 4500 tops.

Additionally if anyone selling or have leads/suggestions for steering wheel with air bag, front bumper, side skirts, radiator support, front cross-member, control arms (front only), headlights, 18" rims, 350z shocks (i might as well), fender liners, stock seat belts (driver & passenger), and oil pan could help me out, I will forever be grateful.

The list actually goes on, but I can't think of anymore at the moment. I'm also exhausting every resource available, and certainly not posting this out of laziness.

haha, I don't even have the heart to take pictures of it right now; I'm still in the mourning period.

Yes I agree, 18 grand is too much and not worth fixing, but if I were to acquire the parts and fix it myself I can do it for less than 5,500. I haven't come to a complete decision yet, but I should have one by tonight. If I decide to fix the car I'm going on a purchasing spree. =)

Why are you trying to fix it? Shouldn't insurance be totaling the vehicle and cutting you a check or do you have liability only?

Glad that you're alive. I never understood how someone could just fall asleep while driving...

Sorry for your loss...

I've fell asleep before on the road... no sleep for more than 24 hours, just like the OP.

Luckily for my, a semi blasted his horns while I was driftin off to the right... towards his Rig.

Snapped up real quick and didn't sleep again.... til I got home of course...

If it costs that much its definitely not worth fixing. I would rather take what the insurance company is offering and go with another used G35. I paid 18k for my 04 g35 last summer with 35500miles. From experience and from a family friend mechanic, once a car gets in a moderate crash, the integrity of the frame of the vehicle is compromised. You're practically replacing most of the front end. I would rather have a piece of mind and get a used G that hasn't been in a crucial wreck. It might be all and good after you fix it but there is a risk that you can have future problems. Plus if you ever decide to sell it you will lose value.

Glad to hear you're okay, that's the most important part. Sleep is integral, I smack the snooze button at least four times before I drag myself up.

I assume insurance isn't involved?

Dude said he crashed into a traffic pole. Was this on the highway or the street?

It was a highway with scatter traffic signals. And foolishly I opted to go with liability with a comprehensive package, because I never been in an accident before. I knew the risks, but I decided to go with it to divert some of the funds into different investments and etc.. Fortunately, I wasn't injured.

But like I said in my original post I hadn't slept for at least 24 hours, and went through exhausting work. =T

Additionally, I love my car.. when I purchased it I had plans to eventually turn it into a track car when the life span came close to an end where parts could be replaced with performance modifications from simple wear and tear.
