metallic clunk when getting into the car

Lately, I have noticed that every once in a while (maybe once a day if I get in an out of my car a few times a day) I hear a metal clunk when I get in it.

I am not a heavy person, if that is what you are thinking.
The sound seems like it is coming from underneath the car, but I wouldn't even know where to begin to look (i am not a car person, and I don't have a stand to get under the car).

I am just curious if anyone else has heard this before. I don't hear it when I am driving or going over bumps. It seems to happen most often first thing in the morning when I get in the car. If I drive to work, get out and go back in the car and hour later, I generally don't hear the clunk.

Any ideas where I can begin, or if anyone out there might have possibly encountered the same thing?

I got the same clank - sounds like it's coming from the front of the car on the driver side. Exactly the same symptoms as OP described. My guess is it's the suspension, and since I don't hear anything clanking when I'm driving, even slow, over bumps, with the windows down, I've been ignoring it.

You sure that's not just the pads moving a little on the rotor (parking brake applied) from the little suspension/wheel movement caused by getting in?

Also, the seatbelt can sometimes make an unusual clunk when you get in. There's something inside the door that shakes a bit; I'm not talking about the actual buckle.
