Car in a wreck!
If a person has repaired, furnished supplies or materials, towed or stored a vehicle and has not been paid for the services rendered, that person has a lien against the vehicle. The lien arises at the time the registered owner is presented with a written statement of charges for completed work or services. Although if services were performed that were not agreed upon and no written and signed estimate was issued beforehand, a mechanic has no right to keep the title owner from reclaiming the vehicle. If a mechanic asserts a fee that is not reasonably related to the work performed, and refuses to return the vehicle until that price is paid, the owner of the vehicle will be able to recoup a storage fee from the mechanic, as the mechanic is in the wrong for refusing to return the vehicle. In doing so the mechanic would commit the crime of conversion, or Embezzlement
If the vehicle is towed by a public agency or private towing company, the lien arises when the vehicle is towed or transported. The lien may be satisfied by selling the vehicle through the lien sale process.
To conduct a lien sale, the person/lienholder must have possession of the vehicle and have lien sale authorization from DMV. Interested parties, including the registered and legal owners of record will be notified before the sale occurs.

embezzlement...This is a blatant case of extortion...If they fixed something you didn't authorize and are now making you pay for it or they won't release the car? hmmmm that is clearly extortion and will win in court hands down. Not only will that win but you can potentially put them out of business, especially if there is an audit conducted and they find this was done before. This is actually an exciting opportunity...you are going to get free work done and stick it to a conman.
Good and bad news.
GOOD: I got my car back about and hour ago. The body shop basically ate the cost that they tried to charge me. The car looks beautiful again and it is super clean on the inside. I didnt have to pay a dime!
BAD: The seat button would not work when I first tried it, The wiper fluid light stays on, The airbag light flashes at me, and it doesnt look like they even touched the alighnment! It pulls hard to the right when I let go of the wheel. Im mad but not as pissed as I was. Ill have to check the issues out when I get off of work.

Never go back to them again, looks like they are a shady business and want to pull one on you, imagine how many other people may have been told to foot some out of pocket stuff that they have been able to get away with. I would talk with the local DA and have the city go after them.
Check connection on the windshield reservoir bottle, check fluid level in the reservoir, reset the airbag light with instructions from the forum because they probably removed the seat to fix it, check connections under the seat to make sure they're secured properly, take the car somewhere else to get the alignment done, and tell the insurance company about the alignment problem before you go.

Ok so the bad list just got a bit longer. I didnt get a chance to really check out the work because I was late getting to work this morning. I just checked everything on the car on my lunch break. Here is the bad list
1)Airbag light blinking-just needs to be reset.
2) Wiper fluid is empty-just needs to be refilled
3)Plastic piece on hood hinge broken
4)I have to slam the hood to close it.
5)Hood rubs on fender
6)Fender/hood gap uneven
7)Dent in the new fender
8) Fender is not even with the door.
9)dent on the corner of the door where is lines up with fender.
10)Scatch in the "newly" painted door.
11)Alighnment not even touched.
12) Orange peel affect on all the areas they did paint.
13) They were supposed to paint the hood but instead just did a ****ty job spot painting the chips
14)They told me that they replaced the trunk and spoiler and repainted. Instead they used my trunk, tried to unsuccessfully pull the dent out and did not even paint the spoiler. Still chips in it!
Needless to say I am livid. They had my car for three weeks, tried to charge me for ****ty work they did, and did a half assed job. I am going to take it by the insurance adjusters after work, and it is not going back to that body shop.
wow ... such f-ing @$$|-|0|_3$ .... !!! dude, if these people were recomended by your insurance, you can get all the repairs done again. if you asked the insurance to go to your own bodyshop and you picked them, then you are screwed, you would have to go to court for that if they decide not to fix it !
I would take pictures of everything you listed, and write down everything and everyone you have talked to since the first call while it's still fresh in your mind.
Call your insurance and DEMAND an adjuster meet you at a shop of your choice. I would then get another estimate from the new shop to correct all the problems. Then explain to the adjuster that you will not go back to the other shop, and it's their responsibility to be sure your car is repaired to your satisfaction.
The insurance company will not be happy about this, they paid for the repairs to be done correctly and to the customers satisfaction. If this is one of the insurance companies preferred shops they will deal with them directly to get compensated for the repairs not done right.
I worked for a body shop a few years ago, we were an Allstate and Geico preferred shop and they were very strict about customer satisfaction. If there were any problems with the customer we had to correct it and if it was our fault we didn't get paid for the change order, we had to eat it. Plus they did random inspections and sent secret clients in to check on us. It was a privilege to be one of their shops and we really worked hard to keep it that way. Most insurance companies want their customers happy.
I wouldn't fix anything yourself and I would be on the phone to the insurance company NOW. And don't let them give you the run around, tell them the car isn't safe with the airbags non functioning....even if hey aren't you can't tell that if the light is blinking.
Good luck!
