Best year and transmission combination V35

Greeting from Sydney, Australia aka downunder

I am currently thinking of importing a *** Spec V35 and after reading this website and the Australian skyline site have become rather hesitant to do anything. Have been hearing nightmare problems of window issues and more importantly the pooling of oil in with the spark plugs and the most worrying is the oil consumption where the car burns oil. My 1996 hyundai excel doesn't burn oil don't want my new purchase to have this issue because here in Oz we don't have the luxury of taking the car to nissan dealership because it is imported here.

Is there a year and transmission which is the best to consider to not have these issues?? Have been reading the manual 2005 or newer models have engine problems.

Just don't know what to do or which one to consider.

Thanks in advance and look forward to your valued opinions.

Any Automatics dont get the Oil Consumption issue, and neither do the 03-04 manual transmissions.

Not true, I had a 03 5AT that consumed 3 quarts per 1000 miles. Still happens.

+1. same with 03-04 manuals. just because there wasnt a tsb doesnt meant there isnt an OC problem. take the vk45de, theres lots of instances of OC in q's, first gen M's, and fx's, but theres no TSB.

I would get 05 or newer. Better styling, better interior, less problems, projectors 06+ plus they should be under powertrain still, if not 4/60 warranty.

Hey elmacho here in Australia we import these cars as private imports so no warranty we get them from *** auctions. I know someone who checks them well in japan personally.

Anyway back to the topic, so if I get an automatic I'm safe from the oil burning issue?

What about the spark plug oil build up issue?

Cheers for your responses

oooo gotcha. The OC problem has a lot to do with the maintenance of the previous owner. long oil change intervals can condem any engine to OC problems.

that issue is the plug seals in the valve covers wearing over time and leaking oil into the spark plug tubes.

I have a 2003 Skyline 350GT Coupe 6-speed. It does not have the oil consumption issues that affect the American models. It does have intermittent problems with electric windows and door locks though.

In terms of specification, the Infiniti models are slightly higher spec'd. You'll have a hard time finding a JDM car with full leather interior for one. We don't get to open and close windows with the key fob like they do. Also, the Japanese navigation and TV won't work outside of Japan.

With regards to parts compatibility, I purchase my parts from America, G35 and 350Z, and they fit perfectly.

Also, if you're looking at the auto's, don't get the 8-speed CVT. They don't take well to power increases and hard driving.
