You never change your filter? Wow..
My car wouldn't be running if I never changed the filter. In addition to changing my oil every 4.5-5k miles (sooner if Im commuting long distances) that 5 gallon jug is to keep my oil at its optimum level. If my car only got oil put in at every oil change my engine would probably be bone dry and of course blown long before it made it to dry. I have to throw in an extra quart every 7-10 days. I drive anywhere from 75-150 miles a day depending on how busy I am or where my customers are. On a side note, I knew a guy with an acura integra early 2000's model and he never changed his filter he just put oil in it. He never had any issues but of course its honda. I've seen people drain the oil and fill it with water and it ran for a while before it blew.

actually heres the vid:

This is all the info I can get other than what the dealerships can tell me..... I cant find what i want within 300mi of me that is less than 125k with a manual transmission so am forced to buy without being able to inspect/drive it. The 3k car is being sold as is and was a trade in. The 6k car has a 30 day warranty and was serviced by the dealers shop. what is the performance difference in the two cars? The grill was replaced on the 6k mile 06 after the pics and they emailed me pics of it.

Coupe 6MT Premium RAS
Start by removing the starter and battery, have them both tested at a parts house (it's free). Just because you can turn the engine by hand doesn't mean it's good, the piston rings could be trashed, you can test by getting a compression tester, remove all the spark plugs, pull the fuel pump relay, screw the tester into each spark plug location and crank the motor 7-8 times. Compression should be about 180, anything below 145 is bad (pretty sure it's 145 anyways, google it). All cylinders should be within 10% of each other.

If a bearing is spun it will feel like a lot of resistance on the crank pulley but you will still be able to turn the engine, so will the starter but it will turn REALLY slowly.

Nothing wrong with getting a second opinion, might be worth the Nissan dealership diagnostic fee if it is something that's not a catastrophic failure, did your son run it low on oil or overheat the motor? The engine is protected by a rev-limiter and will limp mode itself if anything gets too out of whack but failures do happen from ignoring things like temp and oil.
