speeding ticket help please

I was coming back from san jose to stockton where I live at 2 in the morning. I was doing about 80 and when I noticed that traffic was getting thinner, I pulled up to 90. I saw a car coming up very fast behind me and got on my bumper. I switched into the 2nd lane to get out of his way and speeded up to get out of there. I'm doing about 105 and the same car catches up to me and he rides my tail for a bit and turns on the sirens. I didn't know it was a cop I just thought it was a guy who thought I wasn't going fast enough and decided to ride my tail. They pull me over and write me up a ticket for exceeding 100mph and one of the officers tell me I might get my license suspended. I went to ticketassasin.com and read the info if I fight this ticket would I have a chance at lowering my offenses? This is the only ticket that is on my record. Thanks for your help.

105mph thats not bad, but he should not suspend your license. When he taligated your car he probably wnated to make sure if you were drinking.

Re: speeding ticket help please

you better hire a lawyer and fight it
more than likely you wont have your license suspended and your offenses will definitely be lowered. since its your 1st ticket you may be granted some leniency. i also got pulled over the other day for supposedly making a right turn without checking for traffic (we all know how cops speed, and i didnt know he was approaching so fast so i guess i made him brake and pissed him off). ended up getting a warning for that and a ticket for tint

Re: speeding ticket help please

should I go the route of ticketassasin or hire a lawyer immediately. I speeded up that much because I thought it was guy picking a fight with me or something because he was riding my bumper pretty hard. I had no idea it was cop and I couldn't see the sirens on his car even when I checked multiple times through my mirror. Thanks for your help guys.

Re: speeding ticket help please

I've had the on your bumper experience as well. I was on the highway in moderate traffice at night, and the left lane was open. Once I got into the fast lane, saw a motorcycle gaining speed quickly from a ways back, also moving to the fast lane to get behind me. I'd had a ticket less than a year previous, so decided to play it safe. This bike pulled behind me and it seemed like he was just inches off my bumper. His headlight was dead center in my rear view mirror. The whole inside of my car was nealy blinding bright from the light. I figured a bike can easily just pull around me, and I just stuck to 65. He stayed right on my bumper for maybe 30 seconds before passing me on the right between lanes. Sure enough, Highway Patrol. Clearly bating me to speed.

Re: speeding ticket help please

I got pulled over for 95 in a 50. I recommend to get an attorney. I didn't and I'm LUCKY that I didn't get my license suspended.

Thanks - Joey Avino

Man, Robaire: I say you saw a deer or something and lightly tap those breaks. Tail gateing is tail gateing even if it is a COP!

Re: speeding ticket help please

I don't think there is much of a defense with any story. I would find it hard to justify any speeding over 100 unless bullets were actually flying at you or something. A car getting on your tail is hardly a reason to speed up. It sounds like you were trying to show off. I'm sure the cop was really impressed. Not to be mean, but if you can't tell if a car is a cop or not, slow down, back off and wait to make sure it isn't a cop before you have your fun. We are all particularly vulnerable to cops at night as it can be hard to tell. I end up slowing down for a lot of motorcycles, taxicabs and those security patrol vehicles to be on the safe side. I'm sure you'll be more cautions the next time this happens... =)

Re: speeding ticket help please

I wasn't trying to show off demostrating speed just because a car was on my tail. I'm new to this area and lived in socal most of my life and am not familiar with the area. I got really scared and was wondering why a car at 2 in the morning was tailgating me so closely so speeded out of there. Do chp have video cameras in their car?

Re: speeding ticket help please

Had similar experience with a bike cop. I was doing 75 behind these two cars, however I like to leave myself some space at 70+ to play it safe. So I cut around and passed those car at 85mph, immediately, someone biker sped right up and rode my tail.

I couldn't get a good view but I knew deep down in my guts it had to be a cop. So I cut to the slower lane and reduced speed to 65. Surely, a bike cop passed me by and he matched speed to give me a glance and then took off. I was extremely lucky and avoided this 200 dollar ticket.

You have to come up with a better excuse than I was afraid of someone tailgating me. That excuse has been played out, everytime I hear someone caught like that has used that excuse, and I am sure the judget has heard it many times.

(Don't believe me just use the search function for tickets.)

Buy an hour of lawyer's time and ask for his advice, seriously.
Being tailgated don't give you an excuse to speed. You could have created the same gap by switching lanes and hit brakes hard.

"why a car at 2 in the morning was tailgating me so closely"

This is probably the biggest clue that it was a cop. Socal cops are notorious for this. The same is true for norcal. I've gotten tickets in just about every part of cali. Live and learn man.

Re: speeding ticket help please

Seems the cops were a few car length behind tailgating in both of the above situations. Just wondering if you brake and the cop ends up you hitting or had to brake hard to avoid you, are you in trouble for doing that??
