Horrible road noise with 19" OEM rays?
#17
Although I can't say for certain since my experience did not involve the steering wheel vibrating when you come to a stop, I don't know if it's balancing or worn tires. When I first bought my car, the car had about 6/32+ all around, but the noise was already there. Then I switched to winter set, and the noise was gone, and when I switched to my summer set, the noise was there still although I got the set balanced/mounted/aligned at the stealership. Unfortunately, I was told that there's no way to "fix" feathering once it occurs, so you either live with the noise until the tread wears out, or replace the tires.

Mounting, balancing and alignment on a set of 19's will set you back about $200. I got mine installed and balanced for $100 at Discount tire because some bozo that fixed a tire before quoted me $20 per tire.

There's nothing more important than balance and alignment to make your tires live along with how nice it handles when everything's right. Those Stones are likely shot, are the inside of your fronts worn? That's where we get the famous tire "Roar" from 30 MPH down. No matter how loud you turn up your tunes it's there....

So I got the wheels balanced yesterday... no change!
Like Gary said, it's under 30 MPH, and on my 18s, I could turn the music up. Doesn't work here.
Front treads look good, with even wear.
The rears are a little uneven, but honestly, the noise has to be from the front.
That's actually what I'm experiencing. During braking it's much worse...

^sounds more and more like tire feathering/cupping... can you see small cracks all over the tire when you're up close? try running your hand across the tire to see if its smooth...
Also, from maintenance perspective, always maintain tire pressure to spec... I learned at the recent dyno meet that the center of my rear tires are nearly bald... while the sides had decent tread left... <-- result of me being lazy and increasing pressure about 3psi over spec every time I fill so that I wouldn't have to care about checking pressure as much.

I have this exact problem with my car now...I have brand new (4-5 thousand miles on them) Nankang sport tires. Got an alignment right when I got the car and it was fine then a little afterwards the noise.....its all right when going over 50, bad under that and the worst when I brake. I havent had them balanced and I dont remember if they are directional or not. Do you think balancing them would help get rid of the noise or is there something wrong with my car?? No thread hijack haha.

that sucks, but yeah I don't think its uncommon with G35 coupes. But you should still do all those precautionary things members mentioned here as far as balancing/alignment/pressure stuff is concerned. you can't fix the feathering, but i am told that the noise does get worse if you neglect/ignore it.
