Automatic vs. Manual Mode

Is there actually a difference between using the two modes? I was racing a 04 Acura TL 6spd on the highway and he was hard to track down....He has intake but so do I.... Would it have helped to have the VDC off and put it in the manual mode?

Manual mode would have let you shift at a bit higher RPMs than regular auto, just be careful that you don't hit the cutoff point. VDC off is also a good idea when you are looking for speed.

No... Keep your VDC on when you are on the Highway at high speeds. You can get in trouble fast if you start to loose traction at those speeds. VDC off rule of thumb is for straight line starts from a stop so if you break traction a bit and spin your tires it wont kill the engine power.

I use MM mode on the highway every once in a while if I need to move thru traffic and want to "control" the car a bit more. I do not think it would make to much of a difference tho tracking down a TL. Those are pretty fast at speed and you can overtake them without to much of a problem but it depends on how much of a jump and acceleration they have on you.

Please tho keep your VDC on while on the highways.

I think that VDC buttom should be relocated on the steering wheel? I find the VDC buttom quiet difficult to turn it back on when driving on high speed. Or Re-locate somewhere more convience.

Ya I do agree the VDC button is down out of the way... Kind of hard to reach without taking your eyes off the road. But back to the 04 Acura TL, to be honest I do not think I would have pulled him back in. I had the gas all the way down. He has a cold air intake and I have the JWT w/ ztube. I thought for sure being a faster car with more hp and torque I'd beat him. I guess those 6 spd transmissions really do make a big difference. At least I think so after this... We both agreed I'd get him off the line with no problem with the increase in torque but I was just surpised how it was from a roll at 75mph...

Re: Automatic vs. Manual Mode

My problem with VDC is ... well yeah it's a cool safety feature, but if you learn to depend on it to keep you out of trouble then you can have problems. The G handles well without it and it is important to learn what the car can and can't do without the assistance of VDC.

At highway speeds I suppose that the VDC would not slowed you down unless you had somehow slipped the tires or began losing control.

If he was a 6-speed, then you wouldn't beat him. The 6-speeds are very quick and is faster than the auto G. C&D got 5.7 to 60 with the 6-speeds TL.
