Motordyne Plenum Spacer

Quick question. I realize that a large number of members on this forum have the 5/16 plenum spacer. I just installed this mod on my 06 5AT coupe myself and notice that once the engine warms up I get a whistling noise. I'm assuming that one of the perimeter plenum bolts is not sealing properly, can this cause any serious damage to my engine, as I don't really have the initiative to retorque all the bolts again. I did use a digital torque wrench during the install and followed the instructions to a "T". Has anyone else encountered this after the install? Are my assumptions that spacer is not sealed properly likely correct?

thanks in advance guys, and yes I searched this first lol

Your assumptions are correct. There is a leak somewhere and I would suggest going back through the install again....

Check the rubber lip by your oil filler cap. Mine folded under so I had to loosen and re-torque the upper.

Absolutely unbelievable statement.

Please sell your car to someone who will appreciate it and go buy yourself a $1500 POS you can beat the hell out of. You shouldn't drive a G, you're not ready for one.

Bluedream...good advice can i buy yours lol? I didn't say I wasn't going to do it properly, I'm just not excited about having to do the gradual tightening of the bolts again...wanted to make sure the whistle was in fact caused by my improper seal assumption.

Take the plastic cover off and spray around the mating area with a can of carb, or brake cleaner to find your leak.

Thanks for the constructive advice davesxx, thats what i was thinking of doing. It's not my daily driver so I've parked it until I had the time to investigate it further. Should be a quick fix to find and retighten, just sucks to have to redo half the install. That'll learn me to take my time lol

It'll take you like 10 minutes.

Check your hoses too. Most of the time, people forget to put a hose back on lol. Did you use the locite for the bolts?

Just got out of my garage with the car and all is well. I found that the spacer wasn't torqued down between the 17 and 18 bolts on the instructions to spec like the others, no more late night installs for me I guess lol. But to answer silencer the locktight was applied and all the hose connections were reconnected, it just came down to rushing through the end of the install I guess. Thanks very much for all the responses guys, with the exception of BlueDream i appreciate the suggestions and assistance, I just wish there were more replys from the experienced members like yourselves with patience for us new guys.

Cheers guys!!

hey just wanted to know do you feel a difference with the spacer cause ive been told its not worth the cash on 06 models , i still dont get why ? i also have a 06 auto so mods are supposedly pointless from what every 1 has been saying on g35 forums

Mods aren't pointless unless you deem the price for the gains to be pointless, and you will get probably the most gains with the spacer besides test pipes/art pipes.

pitt_fan: OP has the non-revup engine (I know because it's 5AT) so he will benefit from the spacer alone. IIRC revups apparently do NOT benefit from the spacer unless paired with the MREV2 lower manifold. That may be what you have been reading wrt 'pointless' mods.

swivel's right from what I understand. On our auto's I don't find the spacer to be overwhelmingly noticable but I do have a little more grunt in the lower to mid RPM's, it is a bit more fun to drive. I've spent alot more for mods on my previous vehicles and not noticed anything, I feel the spacers cost is justified. I'd recommend it.

I've spoken to a guy at Motordyne and he said if you have an 06/07 AT, you dont need the mrev2 lower piece.
