Had an interesting experience with the 03 G35 Coupe that I bought a few weeks back.
It is a super clean Silver 03, automatic, fully loaded, 35,000 easy miles by an older lady who traded it in on a new Mercedes. The car looks showroom new.

Stopped at the self serve gas station to fill up for the first time and it felt like some sort of comedy.
First off, I drove up next to the pump as I would normally do to fill up on the driver's side.
Got out and walked around the car to find out that the darn car fills up from the passenger side.
Got back in and drove to another pump that was on the passenger side.
Got out and tried to figure out how to get the cover to open so that I could get to the cap.
No luck.
Pushed it a couple of times to see if it simply popped out.
Nope.
Looked around the driver seat to see if there is a latch like every other car I have owned in the last 20 years.
Managed to find the trunk release latch.
After scratching my head and looking I finally pulled out the owners manual and spent a minute scanning the manual.
The manual said that the latch is released by an inward push, at which point it will pop open.
I tried pushing and releasing every few inches around the entire cover.
Nothing.
All I could figure was that maybe the latch broke so I called the salesman who sold me the car and found out the last important tidbit which was in the owners manual if I had bothered to read the entire page carefully instead of just a quick scan.
Before the latch will work you have to push either the unlock button on the remote or the unlock switch on the door to unlock the latch to the cover.

Now I know.

^I could have told you that
Theres some more options you probably don't know about yet, continue reading the manual.

Nice that cracks me up, it's been a while but I think we've all been there and made the same mistakes. That's one of those moments....LOL

Wait, if the car is locked, you can't pop open the gas door? I had no idea after 8 months... lol. Good piece of info, I would have been just as confused as you.

The only problem I had was with the 2007 G35 Sedan loaner. I tried to push it open like the g35 coupe.
