Breaking in a new motor!!! help
Breaking in a new motor!!! help
About to recieve my car back from the dealer today with a brand new motor. Looking to see everybodies suggestions on engine break in. I know there are many different methods. Should I just go with what the dealer suggests?
Thanks
Thanks
Following the dealer kind of goes without saying if you don't wanna go back and deal with their crap if you neglected their directions and damaged your motor.. No WOT and no going past 4k RPMs I think was the rule.. For how many miles I don't remember.
Good luck on that task. It's tough being the first person in line at a red light with nothing but road in front of you and that right leg is feeling a little heavy..

Just drive it like you normally would but no WOT for the first 1K miles at least. Change oil/filter at 2K and go with synthetic from then on. "Treat her right and she'll be good to you!"

Thanks guys! Is there any true benefit of going to full syn? And o man I can already fell the difference in the motors this one is soooo smooth. They said I spun a rod bearing. And thanks again for the advice.
Drive on the freeway and downshift, but don't go pass 4.5k.
Downshifting creates a "vacuum" or something. I forgot what my tuner told me.
But he said to Drive between 2.5 to 4.5 and don't constantly drive on 4.5k rpm. Basically, for the 1st 1k or so, just keep the RPM range bouncing from 2.5 to 4.5.
Not saying to drive like this constantly, but every now and then just downshift to make it hit the 4.5k range for a few seconds. Then go back to the gear you were on.
Not sure how to do this if you have a auto.

My sister just bought a new Sonata and they said there really isn't too much you need to be worried about with how advanced these engines have become. Being Mechanical Engineering, I would agree with this and also agree with the above comments, don't keep it at one speed for too long, DO NOT use Cruise Control for a few thousand miles, and just treat it well!

when i got my new engine the dealer told me not to go past 4,000rpms, not to keep it at a constant speed slow or fast. not to go past 60mph. oh yea and not to brake hard if possible. Until 1200 miles then do w.e but dont use cruise control until after 4,000 miles. Honestly its hard keeping up with these rules cause drivng at 60mph or slower on the highway kinda does suck lol. i went past 4,000rpms 3 times by mistake. There were life or death situations. The way i was thought to "break in" a new engine was to push it hard for 20 miles so the rings can seal properly. Since i plan on keeping the G i did it the right way.
But this is telling me to get on it hard in every gear above 2nd? So its basically going against the dealer. Please fill me in on this! Pretty sure if I blow this motor the dealer will start getting a little pissed.

Dude, just don't go over 4.5k rpm. Don't keep the RPM at a constant range. And downshift the car every now and then. Downshifting helps to properly set the rings. It creates some vacuum and helps to create a proper seal.
i dont understand the breakin in thing. i was watching ultimate factorys and after thye finish building the car they take it for a test drive and it looks like they drive it pretty hard. so to me it seems like u dont have to be THAT careful
