Poll: 275/35/R19 Tires on OEM 19" Wheels

Wanted to get an idea of how many people are running this size tire on their rear 8.5" wide OEM 19" wheels, and if it has given them any problems? If you have had problems please explain why. Thanks

I think the consensus is that its too much tire for a 8.5" wide rim. Ive called discount tires and the tech told me the same, he doesn't recommend doing it. I had wanted to run 275/35r19 tires on my rear, but thought better of it after reading the forum comments.

car came with 255/35/19 front and 275/35/19 rear

the only problem I have is the center of the tread wears faster than the outside. the centers are completely bald and the sides still have a 3/16" to 1/4" of tread left.

It's definitely not worth it to sacrifice your own personal safety (and the safety of others if you have blowout) for 275's on OEM 19's!

BTW, I'm running: 245/35/19 (front) and 255/40/19 (rear) on OEM 19's!

I wouldn't go more then a 265 on a 8.5 even that might be too much.

I run 245/35 on front and 275/35 on the rear (OEM 19s) with absolutely no problems at all. There are plenty of threads about this on here, and a lot of various opinions on the subject. Its funny to me that some will say 275s are unsafe because they're not recommended, yet will praise those who stretch a 225 onto a 10" wheel.

IMO the best sizes would be a 235/40 in front and a 255/40 in back, that way the tires would be a little wider and just a tiny bit taller too (which, with the bad roads I deal with in AZ, would help the ride/save the wheels a little bit better). However, hardly NO tire companies make a 235/40/19 (even though they are a OEM size for some BMW models) I think just Bridgestone, and they are expensive and I don't think they make a 255/40 for the rear.

Anyway, sorry to rant off topic, bottom line: I like the 275s on the rear, they handle just fine (not squishy like some would suggest) and I consider them perfectly safe (have never seen/heard of any Evidence to the contrary). We're only talking about 20 mm of width here (over the 255), 10 mm more rim overhang per side of the wheel, that's very little.

Yeah I know that none of the tire store techs will recommend me running that size as the tire specs for the 275's call for a 9-11" wide wheel. That's not to say that there aren't plenty of guys running this size w/ no problems.

255's wouldn't be a bad option...I might look into those.

These sizes seem like a safe yet a touch more aggressive than the OEM tire sizes. How is this setup treating you? Is the fender/tire gap increased, decreased, or the same as the OEM tire sizes?

Thank you for your opinion...how do you like the tire setup you are running?

I checked on 265's and even the tire specs on this size call for a 9-11" wide wheel. So if I'm going to go against the tire manufactuers specs then I'm going to go all out and get the 275's.

How long you been running your tire setup now?
