New guy...I f****d up...need paint help

Hello all, I picked up my bone stock 05 5AT 2 weeks ago...I love this car!

Stripped the old tint, added new tint, detailed the car, etc...I plan on modding it slightly over the next few months...

but in the meantime, I f*****d up....I was backing into a new parking spot last night and scraped the paint over the driver's side rear fender...thankfully, no dent

Please take a look at these pics...and advise as to what you would do...$$$ is tight right now....I need an inexpensive fix short of re-painting/blending the fender....unless that's the only decent option

thanks in advance for all replies

I think a detail guy might be able to tackle painting that area w/o blending the whole fender.

There was a guy that filled and sanded chips/scrapes on his black car and it was almost flawless. He posted something in the detailing section

Unless you're experienced with sanding/wetsanding, I'd stay away from taking a sandpaper to your car. I can't really tell how bad it is from my iPhone....have you already tried clay barring, polishing, waxing it?

Thanks for the replies....

As you can see, it needs painting....should I purchase some stearlership OEM paint, touch it up, polish, buff and wax by hand? I'm not going to attempt to sanding as I have zero experience in that department...or would touching up by hand only exacerbate a professional fix down the line?

Touch up paint is not going to cause any issues for a professional body repair tech.

Sandpaper in the 1500 grit and finer (larger numbers) is not something to be afraid of. Grit that fine will cut so slowly into the finish that you'll have plenty of time to figure out if something isn't working before you really screw up.

Honestly I don't think there's anything that special about the OB paint (I have one myself) that would lead me to the dealership to buy paint from them. Parking lot "rash" like that should be mostly unnoticable from more than a couple of feet away if you just pick up a standard black touch up paint tube from your local auto parts store.

Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the board!

e.t.a. OB = Black Obsidian

Is the paint scratched? Looks like just a white scuff mark in the pic. Let a detail shop tackle it.

thanks guys

It's not a scuff, it's a scrape...apparently, there is a whitish undercoating in that area, it feels almost like primer

I'm going to look into dr. colorchip

but first, I think I'll go get a pro estimate

thanks again,
Ferrus

Since there is no dent, I would recommend you just apply some OEM touch-up paint over the entire area. Let it dry and wet sand it to blend it in.

Doctor color chip is only recommend for small chips about the size of 1/2" inch. You can try to use it on your scrape. Let us know how it turns out. You just have to be careful with step 2 I think. Since the area is larger than 1/2", step two may remove step 1... So just be careful with it.
