In China....missing my G =(
Hey guys,
I've been in China for 2 weeks now and have 1 more week to go, but I miss my G sooooo much! I actually had a dream about it 2 nights ago. This sucks.
The cars here are all crappy and they drive like maniacs on crack. VW, Audi, and Buick Regals are the most prevalent cars here that I recognize. I've seen Nissan commercials on TV and they don't show the G35.
If you're at all interested, I've been to Shanghai, LiJiang, Dali, currently in Xi'an (terra cotta warriors are cool), and will be heading to Beijing later today.
Some observations/complaints:
-The dirtiest port-a-potty in the US is cleaner and less stinky than the cleanest bathrooms in China. I almost vomit from the stank-*** urine smell.
-Most toilets are squatters, ie, basically a hole in the ground.
-The restaurants use a ton of MSG and oil. I think I will have a heart attack in 1 month. But otherwise the food is pretty good in the big cities but not the small ones.
-Things are super cheap here! Meals are ~$2 ea here. I am looking for Nismo gear that I could buy but that's not really in the general marketplaces.
-Everyone smokes here and the cigarettes are much stronger smelling.
-The girls here are not as flat as the Asian girls in the US!
BTW, I'm half Chinese so I'm not hating
Alright, take care guys...I can't wait to get back home to drive my car again!!!

dude, I had the same experience like 2 months ago... but I had bought wheels for my car which arrived the day i left for China. I went a month this those wheels just sitting in my friend's garage doing nothing. DAmn, sucks for you. Also, if you try to find stuff to buy for your car, and you tell them you own a Skyline or a G35, they won't know what the hell you're talking about.

I know the feeling. I felt the sameway, when I was in Munich last week... I just drowned away my sorrows at Oktoberfest . I didn't see any Skylines, but I did see a few kick-but audis.
Where in china are you anyways? I'll be in Shanghai in two weeks. So no head-turner cars in China eh? That sucks. I guess I won't need to carry my camera with me than . When I was in Korea a few months ago, I saw a Silver R34 Skyline GTR parked in front of the Hotel I was staying at.
At least you had chinese food. Usually when I travel, my coworkers are always looking for western restaurants. When I was in Tokyo, my coworker made us go to Outback Steakhouse. It costed like 80 bucks US for a piece of burnt leather. Then we went to an "Italian" restuarant, and had pizza, that tasted like tomato sauce with a shrimp/soysauce base, on top of a a tortilla instead of pizza dough.
Any decent places you can recommend in Shanghai? I'm taking my wife this time, (she's chinese), so hopefully I'm not going to be forced to eat at McDonalds or something with my coworkers. (Unless my corworker makes my wife find directions to a McDonalds )
I was surprised at how many people smoke in Germany. I say that because I thought the USA was stringent on cigarette labeling. The cigaratte boxes in Germany, had big huge labels on it that said stuff like, "Smoking will Kill You", "Smoking will kill sperm cells", "Smoking is an addiction that 80% of people cannot break, so don't start", etc. I was going to buy a pack to kill some time while I was waiting at the airport, but decided not too when I saw those labels....
And yeah, I'm pretty sure my rims still won't be here when I get back from Asia... But I know how you feel and then some... My car arrived from grubbs the day before I left for a long trip. So I took the afternoon off, and went for a long drive, before leaving the next day
Edited by avs007 on 10/05/04 09:34 PM.

Re: In China....missing my G =(
Obviously I know how you feel. My car is still being repaired and every single day I am going crazy not having my G. It's seriously driving me insane. I think when my G is finally ready (approximately 17 days from now), I'm gonna be so happy I'm just gonna whip it to 150 and crash into a wall and kill myself.

Yep,
Add me to the "I miss my G" club....
Just came back from Paris last week. Was there only for a week and it was already more than enough. I missed my car so bad - I dreamed about it while I was on the plane back to the US.
As soon as I got home, I dropped the suitcases, and ran out to the garage to give my baby a nice big hug .... ahhh love is in the air.
Needless to say, my wife was not exited as I was...LOL

I'm back from China and the first day I was back I treated my G to an oil change. The girl at Jiffy Lube thought I was crazy because I was changing the oil at 1470 miles, but it has been almost 3 months since i got the car and I wanted to flush out the metal particles.
AVS, I don't know the names of any places to eat in Shanghai. There are lots of different regional foods in China, so you could try Shanghai-nese or Yunnan, which is spicy!
We took our family to a 'western' meal so we went to eat steak. It was awful! And it was like $40/each =(. The meat was probably Australian but I probably should have asked what exactly they were using. It was not up to USDA Choice standards, IMO.
I wish I had filled my tank up before I left, before the price shot up 40c/gallon!

Re: In China....missing my G =(
Thanks for the tips! (I'm leaving this weekend for asia. China,Korea, and Taiwan... I guess my boss wants to make sure this trip is getting him the most bang for the buck)
But anyways, LMAO about your steaks. When I was in Tokyo last year, my coworker would not eat Japanese food. So we ended up going to an Outback Steak House. It costed us like 80 bucks US for a small piece of burnt leather with something like an 8oz glass of cola, that wasn't even filled up all the way.
What am I going to do... 2 weeks without my G

Re: In China....missing my G =(
holy motherfcuking shyt, i was in shanghai, china the last summer vacation. i have missed my g35 c for like 2 month, just cuz i bought my g35c in march 04. man, i am telling u i dreamed my G almost every night. the cars in china really do suck, btw, i was born in shanghai, china. i wondered if i could drive my g on the streets in shanghai, then there would be chics chasing me like hell. even tho, my dad owns a mb sl500 in china, it costs like a ml sl65 in U.S., about .2mil. i think my g35 prob worth .08mil in china.
now i am going to tell you how crazy i was about my car in china,
i printed my g35 c pic on my white t-shirt, which i've taken those pic when i was in u.s. i showed my G pic to every people i met in shanghai. if i can, i will export my g to china, i think there is no G in china or skyline.
luv the G and Z.

Re: In China....missing my G =(
I'm in Shanghai right now.... Man I miss my G... I have yet to see and G/Skylines here. Only Nissan I saw here so far, is a Nissan Bluebird, which looks like the previous gen altima. I see mostly VW, Buick, and Audi, in that order. Well, I did see one Infiniti G20, and it was badged as an Infiniti, but I'm pretty sure it was not purchased locally, but rather was imported.. I haven't seen any Euro/Japanese Accords (TSX), but I have seen lots of American Accords, where the license plate cutout was too small for the euro-ish chinese plates, so the plate was just bent in the middle, and tacked on anyways. Looks really stupid. I see lots of cars like that here.
People sure do tint their windows funny here. Limo tint all around, except for a rectangular area where the side view mirrors are, where there is no tint at all... Looks funky...
Traffic sure is "interesting" here. Traffic signals appear to be only provided for decoration, as nobody pays attention to them. And I swear, the horn is attached to the brake pedal on all the cabs. I thought I was going to die so many times. Going 150 km/h in an 80 km/h zone, cramming 4 lanes of traffic into a 2 lane road, and dodging pedestrians who seem to waddle into the street whenever/wherever they please.Felt like I was a passenger in an auto-x event, as we were swerving around pedestrians. The cab I was riding in, even blared the horn to a bunch of pedestrians that were crossing, even though they had the green. Cabby just blared horn, and actually accelerated, despite nobody clearing a way for him .
I don't know how many times, somebody "took too long" to complete a turn, so the cabby just pulled out, and turned into the street the other guy was trying to turn into. Or somebody took too long to "merge", and the cabby pulled onto the shoulder and went around, with only inches to spare between us and the concrete barrier.. In fact lots of times a guy was changing lanes, and couldn't get in, cause there was no room, but because he already commited to change lanes, the cabby sped up, and block him from coming back into the lane, forcing the guy into no-man's land.
What surprises me, is that we haven't been in any wrecks yet. In fact, looking at the cars, they look to be in good condition. Unlike when I was in Korea, where every car appeared to have a dent/scrape on the corners of their bumpers.
The food has been pretty good so far, except for the restaurant at the Shanghai Museum. The noodle soup there was basically noodles boiled in plain water, served with a piece of chicken with ketchup on it. blech...
It was funny when I was strolling down Nanjing Road, and noticed that Taco Bell appeared to be a 4 star restaurant, complete with tables with table clothes, actual silverware and glasses. Reminds me of the Denny's I was at in Ensenada, Mexico, that had crystal chandaliers and a gift shop.
But anyways, I'm counting the days until I get to drive my G again. (And crossing my fingers that my Rims will be in my living room when I get back, but I somehow doubt it)
