I am eagerly awaiting my G, as I am sure many others are, and I was reading the Automobile Magazine article that zman refered to in his post (great articles by the way). It compared the GCoupe to the BMW 330ci. My question is, how come the G only gets from 30-70MPH in 25 seconds while the Beamer gets there in 14.5!? 0-100 time is slightly faster in the GC.. 15.1. To those that have the coupe already, is there any truth to this nonsense? Or do the drivers of Automobile not know how to drive? I think its important to know since that range or MPH is important on the highway..

 

Automobile mag takes their 30-70 time in top gear, so the G is at a huge disadvantage since it has to do it in 6th gear. Try accelerating from 30 in 6th and you'll see what I mean.

Yeah its a completely worthless test in my opionion.

 

Yea I think that test is ridiculous for several reasons:

1. As stated above, when you have a 5MT vs. a 6MT, the test doesn't really tell you a whole lot because of the difference in gears
2. Not necessarily with the G, but in other tests I've seen, they have used this test to compare 2 cars, one with MT and the other with AT, which is absolutely worthless because of course the AT is gonna kill the MT when it automatically downshifts.
3. How many people, in normal driving, accelerate from ~30mph in top gear with performance/hard acceleration in mind??

Yea, pretty ghey in my opinion too. This should be called the "cell phone test", although why anyone would be in 6th at 30MPH is beyond me.

 

That test is not gay, its useful for automatics but for manual transmissions i agree, it is useless since you arent supposed to be in 6th gear when going 30mph anyway....i too was confused about that article....then i found out that they test the cars in top gear so therefore its a useless test for Manual transmission cars
They should only test that on automatics (because auto's will shift down when conducting the 30-70mph passing test)
