Paint removal on undertray lip
So when I bought my G used, the dealership resprayed the front bumper, but didn't mask off the lip on the undertray that diverts air to the radiator. As a result, it was sprayed DG as well. After a winter and some parking scrapes, the paint is flaking off in some parts, but still well adhered in others. Anyone got some good recommendations on removing paint from this plastic? I know brake fluid would work, but I was worried it would discolor the black plastic.
I had the same thing happen when I got a new OEM bumper for my sedan. I've just left it as is, but I think if you put a line of tape along the paint edge you want to keep and knock it down with some 400 or grittier sandpaper it'd come right off. There's probably a better chemical solution but I don't know of any myself.
Typically when a shop repaints your bumper they have to sand down the surface and primer it so that the base coat will stick. If you paint right on top of a smooth clear, the paint won't stick and will peel right off.
