Brake help!!

i changed my brakes yesterday i swapped out the oem rotors and my hawk pads for a set of powerstop drilled and slotted rotors and a set of ebc greenstuff pads.for the first 50 miles everything was okay. i was just following ebcs directions for bedding which is just to take it easy on the brakes for 400 miles.. after i drove 50 miles on the new brakes around my neighborhood which was all stop and go traffic.. i started to get this crunching sound from the brakes but only on very slow stops. it seems to happen when the brakes are at there hottest. but it is noticeable and there is vibrations coming through the steering wheel. i haven't changed my brake fluid though. does anyone know what it can be?

thanks for the help guys

Check the pads an rotors for any rocks getting stuck. This happen to our Maxima when we were driving on a new road that they were paving. Out of 1 in million chance something got stuck on the rotor/pads.

First time i have heard of performance brake pads being bedded in by taking it easy for 400mls

The normal procedure is to build up the braking effort gradually getting more and more heat into them over a series of increasingly harder stops, until you start to get some transfer of pad material,

If you just treat them gently for 400 odd mls and then use as normal they will never work as intended, if you did this then i suspect you have just cooked them and they will feel like you have a couple of wooden blocks in there,IE Little braking force and lots of noise.

The only time I have delt with the car vibrating while stepping on the brakes has to do with the rotors. Maybe they are wharped, but it looks like they are brand new right?!? This steering vibration happens because when the pads are clamping on to the rotors that are wharped and uneven then it makes it vibrate. Just take to a certified tech and see what they think. Good luck!

Vibration has zero to do with your brake fluid! The whole idea when bedding in a new pad is to really heat them up so there's a coating on the rotors. The only time I've ever had the vibration you're describing was when my rotors were warped. Looks like I know what not to buy when I need rotors and I'll continue to use my HAWK HP pads....

If the rotors were warped wouldnt they constantly vibrate under braking? They only vibrate after A LOT of driving and only on slow full stops

That bedding process sounds different than most that I've used/read about.

Did you wire brush the hub before installing the new rotors? Next time you do pads pickup a used toaster oven and bake the pads at 350 for 30 min. Unplug oven, let cool down slowly. Do Not open oven door as it will let in cold air and the pads will become brittle. PS do this outside. This outgasses the pads so they are ready for use almost right away.

Sounds like you have new rotors and pads correct? I replaced my fiance's brakes on her ES330 last summer and experienced a similar type of brake judder coming from the front end. The new rotors appeared to be smooth and braking power was still normal it was just the judder that was bothering me. What I did was jack the front end, quickly took it apart, regreased the sliding pins, metal contact points and the backing of the pads with a ton of grease, then reassemble. It seemed to correct the problem instantly. Good luck.

Btw, come on now, you spend good money and a few hours doing your brakes you couldn't spend another $4 and 20-30mins to bleed them with quality brake fluid? IMO EBC greens suck badly. Had them on my sister's Subaru 2.5RS. Never again lol.
