Question

I don't have the luxury of a garage, so my G sits outside all day. Where my parking lot is, there is no shade there of any kind so I was wondering..is excessive exposure to the sun and heat bad for the paint? Will it start fading or something? If you haven't noticed, temperatures have been out of control this summer all over the world and its been like 90+ in Chicago for the past 2 months. If you have any suggestions on how to maintain the paint during the summer, please post.

i remember reading somewhere (i'll look for the article later) that the sun's UV rays cause car paint to fade. actually, i think it dulls down the clear coat or something. maybe get a car cover (if that's not too excessive) and make sure you have good wax on your car to minimize the sun's damage.

An all weather car cover will be your best bet.

But they are pricey. You'll probably spend close to $300 for a good one, with a lock.

if you do a cover outdoors try not to put the cover on a dirty car, the dirt will get on the inside of the cover and then the wind will blow it around and leave some nice scratches/swirls.

For $50, I doubt it's even decent.

Let me know.....I have a custom Covercraft-Weather Shield (their top of the line fabric) fitted for the G coupe. All interior seams have been felt lined so it won't scratch your car. I've only had to use it about 5 times, so it's in excellent condition. I paid over $300for it, but I'll let it go for a good price. (one of the best things about this cover is that you can wash it in your home washing machine, where the others you have to take it to the laundromat.

Custom car covers under $200=

The best car covers made come from California Car Cover and the best fabric for outdoor use is NOAH. They're custom fit so the won't blow off and have pockets for your mirrors. CCC guarantees them for 4 years and stand behind their product 100%. My wife and I have been using them for a loooooog time.
www.calcarcover.com or 800-423-5525 No more faded paint of wasted interior!

I'm thinking of putting up a canopy to keep the sun rays out, but the problem is our neighbors park their cars in that area also and we don't get along with them really so ya.

A cheaper option would be to use a quality sealant and/or wax every other week or so and a windshield guard to protect your dash
