Mileage ~!!~!~!~!
how many miles is everyone driving a day with their g's ?
i am soon gonna get my G (this month) and would like to know the driving habits others have..
i will be driving a min. of 60 miles a day with my G.. yep.. my work is a good 30 miles way... so the miles will add up real quick on my G..
thanks.

Re: Mileage ~!!~!~!~!
understand i come from a background of 4 bangers and FI 4 bangers.. this is the first time going to 6 .. i was gonna go with the VW R32 I6 and FI that... net hp around 5-600 whp stage 3.. but.. its time for a change.. the only other car i like is the G right now.. which has its push and look good too.. the reliablility on VW 1.8T engines have been great to me..
so i think its only fair i ask this question.. the only thing i have noticed with the VQ's are the oil consumptions people are reporting about..
thanks.

Re: Mileage ~!!~!~!~!
Displacement is the key. Obviously the cylinders are fed with free air and expensive gasoline. At cruise the AF ratio is constant so at the exact same rpm a 3.5 liter will/could burn 75% more fuel than a 2.0 liter engine per hour/minute. Same at idle rpm. Some 3.5 liter engines turn fewer rpms at the same cruise speed than 2.0 liters so you must correct for rpm differences.
The other cost is the premium requirement increment.
300 extra premium gallons is less than $650 per year for a 20,000 mile driver plus $150 for premium increment over the 762 base regular gallons.
It often isn't quite this bad say only 40-50% worse mileage as more torque is available from the larger engine for easy acceleration.
You could have chosen a 4.5 liter or a 5.6 liter or 8 liter Viper.

Re: Mileage ~!!~!~!~!
I drive around 70 miles total round trip everyday (of which literally 40 miles are in traffic) and use the car on the weekends (its my only vehicle) and I haven't had any problems at all and in fact, I enjoy every damn mile I'm in the car, even if I'm in traffic. I just have my tunes turned up and listening to my music.

Re: Mileage ~!!~!~!~!
I have my car almost 1 year, and my commute is close to 95 miles total each day......so putting 23-24000 miles isn't a stretch
The miles are all highway, 70-80mph, and I work off hours, so I don't have much of the normal rush stop and go traffic.....
I change the oil faithfully every 3,000, and other than replacing my drivers window motor and a few seasonal rattles, the car is great.......no problems so far with oil comsumption either..
My only major complaint is the paint on the bumper and hood has major chipping.....I would suggest the clear bra if you do alot of highway miles....it will definitely save your front end a new paint job every other year...
Even my Pilot sports seem to be holding up quite well.....
I think if you maintain the car, do the scheduled service required, the car will keep you quite happy for a long time.....

Around 70 average each day, but have a beater for the winter and when its nasty out. Just about to turn 24K miles. Have had warranted trans and clutch, drivers seat cushion, and window tracks.

While true in theory, this doesn't always work out in the real world. My other car has a 3.8 litre V6 with an Eaton supercharger on it. Because it has gobs of torque, the upper gears are a little taller than the G's. Consequently, the G35 at cruise at 70mph equates to about 2600 RPM, while my other car, 70mph equates to barely 2000 RPM. Even the 3.2 litre V6 in my wifes TL gets worse fuel economy than my blown 3.8 V6. I also know friends with the 5.7 6MT V8 Vette/GTO that are getting better highway fuel economy than my G as well. So I would venture out on a limb and say that gearing is just as important, if not more important a factor than displacement. (At least when talking about highway fuel economy)

Re: Mileage ~!!~!~!~!
interesting..
thanks.. looks like a few of you drive much more than me round trip to work..
i also work off peak hours. dont hit much traffic and usually drive 70-90 mph straight.. i never abuse my cars.. infact, i treat them damn well.. my GF even complain about that lol..
any1 know what the rpm is at around 80 mph? 2800 rpm? its much different than my I4 .. at 80 mph in my car, it was @ 3k or so .. i remember 90 mph is at 38xx rpm..
thanks.
