STUFF ON YOUR G35???
STUFF ON YOUR G35???
I recently purchased a brand new G35 coupe and have been reading the posts here regarding engine mods. I'm a newbie to the G35 but it handles as well as my former 540i (6 speed, 325 rwhp with all DINAN mods) and I love scooting away from any 3 series (except for the M).
1) What is a "pop charger"? Is it a cold air intake system? Anyone notice any real benefits (horsepower, gas mileage, sex life)?
2) What does a "grounding kit" do? Does it involve improving the electrical charge for the spark system? Can anyone testify to any REAL improvement in acceleration or gas mileage?
Need answers for these questions both correct and fast or I'll have to send "Big Louie" out to break your knees.

Re: STUFF ON YOUR G35???
keep it stock and enjoy the car, there's nothing like knowing your warranty is in order. The Mods that you mention, with exception of the grounding kit (???) are useless. Bear in mind the manufacturer spent a lot of money putting this car together? Just my opinion and i'm sure there will be a response.
Re: STUFF ON YOUR G35???
You're not going to get any real gains from bolt on N/A mods. If you want a real gain get the Stillen Stage 2 S/C with the warrenty. Right now for our car the best bang for our buck is the stillen / hotchicks sway bars hands down. If you have a suspension problem and have aftermarket parts that's not a huge money issue. If you have engine problems... that sucks!

Re: STUFF ON YOUR G35???
1) The pop charger is a conical filter, dual sided, made by Jim Wolf Technologies. It replaces the stock air box, but not the air intake tubing. Most people partner a pop charger with the stock intake tube from a 350z.
2) Grounding kits are more cosmetic than performance, however, they do stablize the idle more. I've been told that with my new ECU the upgraded grounds would help, but who knows. All your doing is putting better electrical grounds in the car, and if at all, its a 2 hp kind of mod.
As far as N/A mods not being worth it, I beg to differ. Then again, there isnt much else for me to do besides either building the motor or supercharging/TT. I've run against a 350z (stock) to prove a point. From 40, I pulled. From a dig, he got a nicer launch, and I pulled by him before the end of second. So, you say theres no real gains while I run by 350z's with a smile on my face. Also, (I'd assume you would be staying 6MT, however...) if you go the AT route, the grounding kit also has a trans wire for the AT that will smooth out the shifts and speed the reaction time of MM mode.
Best bet, look into the companies listed in my signature, it will give you an idea of what companies out there make mods for the car. Not saying mine are the "way to go" but IMO I think I went a pretty good route.

Re: STUFF ON YOUR G35???
Most people i have to say you dont get gains from bolt ons doesnt know what they are talking about and have hardly any bolt on themselves HAHA!!! I made my sedan from a 6+ second and high 14 second car to prob high 13 sec car and low 5's says my gtech and with my 19's, now with some lighterweight rims and good tires like 16's or 17's and with my plenum these will be done at the track with ease and EVERY TIME, thats a huge difference and its a beast now, nowhere near stock! Get the modding is all i have to say =)

Exactly. Light weight rims and good tires will HELP ALOT! But not bolt on engine mods. There is no reason I want to spend 2-3 grand on intake, exhast, headers, plenum for only a 25HP gain IF THAT and have engine trouble like many others have had and have a voided warrenty. You're better off reducing some weight and some good sway bars and coilovers (like I said before) to give yourself a much better launch.

Re: STUFF ON YOUR G35???
Yo you dont even understand because you havent done it, that 25-30 hp transforms the car into a beast that is nothing like stock at all, all of the stuff i did to my car has outperformed numerous FAST cars, and it is very quick!! It is absolutely NOTHING liek stock and for simple bolt ons and about 2500k$ with installation approx its on a whole different level, i know numerous coupe, sedan, auto, manual guys will agree with me!

Re: STUFF ON YOUR G35???
Illg35...your 100% correct.... Ive said this numerous times, the difference is as clear as night and day.
In stock form, the G35 is an admirable highway cruiser, head turner, and numerous other things. I loved my G when I got it. Now... well, now I can't get enough. 3rd to 4th is the money maker. Ive lost traction.... very very bad going into 4th from 7200 rpms (yes I push it sometimes, but blown motor = built motor in my mind). I need suspension upgrades, badly. The type of power I put down is not controlable by the G's "luxury" suspension. I know you can say "Its just bolt ons" but as Doug from Crawford said to me when I called him up about the headers, he said I gave the same reaction as all, "Wow....." As far as braking, the brembos were fun, but by far under powered now. I'm hoping my pads are just getting low because they don't have that feel of control they did before I started going mod crazy. The car is very controlled in factory form. Read my writeup on the TS ECU. The Crawford headers I was still to in awe to realize what I was driving, but the fact is, there is no comparison between stock and modded (once you hit a certain point). Yes, a G with a pop and tube could loose to a stock G any day of the week, but when you allow the motor to operate at its potential (or close there to) its a whole differnt ball game. Honestly, the car is -VERY- limited from the factory. A/F curves, the manifolds made me laugh when I first saw them, the huge, unneeded "quad cat" setup, the plenum (I dont think I need to say anything about that one), hell even the TB doesnt open all the damn way from the factory. Seriously, you really have no idea the true -factory- potential of what you are driving until you dive in, head first.

Re: STUFF ON YOUR G35???
What your saying goes against everything I've read on this forum and other forums. The G is very well tuned from the factory and the most you can probably get is about a 10 % rwhp gain with na mods. Brembos underpowered, give me a break.

1. English please.
2. Name 2 people who have stayed NA and applied bolt-ons who have experienced “engine trouble”. (Besides those who've had hydro lock issues due to water ingestion.) I bet you can't do it.
3. I can name ~10 people who've gone FI with the VQ35DE that have blown their engines or at least lost compression.
4. I've dynoed 301bhp and I PROMISE YOU that the difference is way more than noticeable. BTW, intake, plenum, and h/f cats cost $1000 and you gain 20bhp. That equates to $50/hp, which IMO is not too bad for relatively safe "bolt-ons".
U mak no sence dood.

Thanks Neff, bolt on NA people represent =) Althought i want to go FI badly, its too much money to get into with "doing it right" (Fully rebuilt engine, etc)
