G35coupe vs. new Chrysler Crossfire?

I just saw the new Chrysler Crossfire. The dodge testing center was next door to my office so I walked over to take a look. Onc guy wouldn't give me much information and jokingly kept saying "can't tell you". I guess the car is on the hush hush?

The other guy finally let me come in and take a look at it. Looks like the 350z to me. Only a 2 seater. I asked what cars it'll be competing against, he said the g35coupe. got me cause it looks a lot like the 350z maybe even smaller. But I guess the chrysler class matches more to the US infiniti badge.

He also just said it's the SLK with a different cover. V6 rear RWD. I never knew this, but is Mercedes made by Chrysler?

wouldn't let me take it out for a spin, darnit. It was the auto version but the manual will be comming out. Both to be released pretty soon this year.

Daimler-Chrysler is the name so I'm pretty sure M.B. owns chrysler. I actually think it will be a good thing. You don't think dodge would have started offering 100k warranties on there vehicles if some of the engines and various other parts weren't assembled in germany do you? He He. I've read about the Cross-fire and yes it is based on the SLK platform and uses about 60% SLK parts. I'm not too into the looks though and it looks kinda bulky for only have about 230HP I think. We'll see, my opinion is that it is no competition for the G35. Just my 2 cents though...

Re: G35coupe vs. new Chrysler Crossfire?

same as:

Toyota=Lexus
Nissan=Infiniti
Honda=Acura
Ford=Lincoln
ect ect...

As for Chrysler, they own MB, the parent company name is DaimlerChrysler. Same as Ford owns Volvo and Mazda and Jag.

Infiniti is made by Nissan Motors of Japan Ltd. But... Infiniti is a line of cars produced specifically for the US. I don't believe nissan offers these cars anywhere but here. Everyone in japan gets nissan that's it. Same goes for Toyota/Lexus and
Honda/Acura. I think its a money making scheme made for the US personally. Whatever the car is called be it a Skyline 350GT or a G35 Coupe I still love it. Peace.

i saw it at the Miami International Auto show. it looks hot and the engine is the mercedes engine and all of it if not most of it is suppose to be built in Germany (this is wat the guy at teh Chrysler booth was telling me). Yea it looks nice but i dont think it will match with the G. PLus its only a two seater how can they compare it to a G

Re: G35coupe vs. new Chrysler Crossfire?

I read it was using a C320 engine with like 215hp under a 6spd power shifter. It 0-60 like 6.5 sec from the mfr. And suppose to compete with the 350Z. It also using all season Z rated tired first for its class.

Re: G35coupe vs. new Chrysler Crossfire?

only 230hp? I would think it had more for being an american car, especially if it want's to compete with Nissan/infiniti.

Maybe it's competing on style and looks? It's a definite change for Chrysler, but still makes me think of an older persons car. The crossfire is nice, but it would be nicer if it was longer or lowered. You can see the SLK in it, it's stubby and rides a little high. The front of reminds me of a cadi. with the sides it's like the SL500. it's a cross between the 350z, sl500, slk and cadi CTS. i guess that's why it's called a crossfire ?

I think it's cool that cars that used to be pointed towards our grandparents are now trying to market towards the younger crowd. I guess this is how they are trying to make it? Or times have changed and everyone wants a sporty looking car.

Pop quiz... what's wrong with this train of thought?

I believe the Chrysler/Mercedes thing is closer to a merge than a full on ownership, such as Ford/Volvo. And I was under the impression that Mercedes was more the parent company than Chrysler.

Re: G35coupe vs. new Chrysler Crossfire?

First of all, Diamler bought Chrysler. The Crossfire does use a lot of CLK parts, but its ugly and too slow for the G.

I believe the merging of European and American auto makers was to get into each others markets with less restrictions. ..dean

Re: G35coupe vs. new Chrysler Crossfire?

sorry Ryoken, I get lazy when I post messages . I meant "IT'S" only a 2 seater. In that meaning it's closer to the 350z then the 4 seater g35coupe.

Re: G35coupe vs. new Chrysler Crossfire?

Diamler Benz bought out more stock in Chrysler and therefore controls the company at this point.

I like the Crossfire... I may cancel my order and get one.
