valve body upgrade........

i have 05 5at with aem cai and 5/16 plenum, getting hfc's and stillen catback next. i heard the valve body upgrade is good mod for auto g35 still confused to what all it does, does it add power? also want supercharger one day but want cams and other internal work done not sure what to do first...buy s/c and save up for internals(what internals besides cams? what about stroker kit?) or do internals first, thanks for feedback

valve body upgrade is a shift kit. Great mod for automatics. makes shifts quicker and crispier

yes it would still be an auto with faster shifts, less delay

There will be no delay in shifting, but it feels very violent even at low speeds due to how it shifts. It also extends the life of your tranny since it doesn't slip the tranny to make shifts smoother. Now, the VB upgrade itself is cheap at $250, but labor is insane and you will end up spending in upwards of $800-900 on it after install.

yup, blksedan4me is right, the valve body upgrade will make the 5AT transimission shift better, and more smooth. This is also a great set-up before you add an FI (forced induction) to your ride. As far as getting internal work done to your engine, how much power are you trying to add? Unless you add a significant amount of hp to your car, you should be fine with stock internals. I think the G stock engine is safe to put out 350whp. I could be wrong...

400WHP is the rule of thumb for a stock VQ35DE engine.

Shifts are not smoother, due to the tranny not slipping the clutch to shift smooth. Shifts are instant and feel violent, but is actually better for the tranny

Cheap upgrade to buy, but as I said before, labor is crazy and can run you like $600

I have had my v/b mod for almost 3 years and the shifts are not violent when driving normally. When you do get on it it will shift quick and hard....now with boost like my twins the shifts can be considered violent...but thats a blast.

The valve body upgrade is a little more than a simple shift kit. It requires that the valve body which is basically the entire bottom of the transmission has to be removed and rebuilt with the kit. In my opinion it is a very complicated part of the trans in that it controls all shifting. Unless you are an experienced mechanic this is not a do it yourself project. That's why the installation costs soo much. It's main impact is when in Manumatic mode where it will remove that lag you feel providing crisp, quick shifts.
