I think that decimal point needs to move to the right one digit. I don't know what forums are saying there's only a .3% power loss per 1000 feet, and I'm not saying you haven't read that somewhere.

I will tell you from first hand experience that a thousand foot change in altitude will be much closer to a 3% power loss than a .3% power loss. I've spent several thousands of hours watching the physics work against my efforts to get from point A to B as quickly, safely, and efficiently as possible.

The Baron I referenced above will only produce 75% sea level rated power when at 7000 feet above sea level. By the time you get to 12,000 feet or so that power output is closer to 60% of rated. This is with throttles wide open and props set for maximum r.p.m.

Glad I was able to offer some insight for you.

thatatguy- Have your codes pulled. If you are throwing a P0327 code then your lag is due to knock sensor/ sensor harness.

I had the same "lag" problem after the car was a full temp, it was DOG slow. Took me over a year to figure it out, but it ended up being my knock sensor harness. The wires were fraed somewhere in the harness, so due to low voltage, the ECU thought the car was knocking, and there for retarded the timing significantly. The knock sensor harness is 80$ ( have to order it from nissan, infiniti doens't have a part # ) and the knock sensor is 50$. If you are mechanically inclined you can do it yourself, or pay the dealership 400$+ to do it for you. Replace both sensor and harness, don't just do one with the off chance it is the other, its not exactly the quickest repair so save yourself the hassel of doing it twice ( unlike me haha )

If you are throwing the 0327 THIS IS YOUR PROBLEM. I tried a million different things and this was it. Three months now and car is running like a champ!

Yes, in fact more then likely it will never activate the CEL, it will throw a code, but more then likely not the CEL. This is due to the fact that the ECU just thinks that there is some abnormal knocking, nothing critical. There for the the ECU retards the timing and continues on. It will throw the code, letting you know what happened, hence why the codes would need to be checked. Most shops will plug you up for free and let you know if any codes have been thrown. If your situation was like mine, and the "lag" is significantly noticeable from before, I'd say you'll have that code awaiting you. Keep us updated!

Oh well crap yno that makes sense. thank you for the input, ill take her in to the shop and see if any codes are present. I wish my car would throw a CEL that way i wouldnt have to guess.

If nothing is present then i guess ill just have to deal with my 8000FT elevation KILLING my car

Well if there's nothing wrong I'll start modding the car and I found a place local that installs JWT turbos specifically for VQ motors.

That would be in 2011 though, running out of sunlight here in Colorado may snow in a couple of months. I'd hate to winter drive with twin turbos haha

Had the codes run by BigOTires, cost about 50.00 and they said there was nothing going on. I did have the differential changed too. They said the oil was filthy, especially after 79xxx miles.

But overall they said the car was fine, they had it four about 2 hours and i work next door so i could see them working on it. (so i know they werent wasting my time)

So no codes, all elevation at this point that killing my performance. O-well, guess i need to buy some breather mods!

Thank you all who helped me figure this out! G35driver rocks!

Glad theres nothing wrong. If it keeps acting up I would find a reputable shop that knows what they are doing with these cars and have them run the codes and take a look. I don't trust any tire shops, hell even the dealer for that matter. I'm lucky and have a guy out here in Indy that has been working on Nissans, Beamers, Audi's, and Infinitis for over 40 years, writes articles all the time for car and driver. So if I have something come up I can't figure out I can count on him to figure it out, and the guy is super cheap. The guy has a usually week too two week waiting list just to get an appointment.

Good luck!
