Just a reminder for all of us.! (close call for me)
Long story short....I just got back from 3days weekend thing in Vegas. I check my car this morning and everything seems fine, except my COOLANT is below (inch) in the minimum line
. Las Vegas is not that hot by the way its just make me think how fast our coolant run out? I mean I check everything 2days before my trip and everything is fine.....
(good thing my G never let me down in the middle of the road going back home
)
So lesson for this Please check your stuff and esp your car before this long weekend trips come.
drive safe everyone

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS check stuff before you go on a drive.
G didn't let me down when I drove down to Vegas from SF. Hopefully it won't either for the return trip last week. Vegas is going to hit triple digits for the rest of the week!

Lmao @ "close call"! Dude, 2" below the full mark is nothing. In fact, that bottle can be empty as long as your radiator is full. This style overflow bottle is just that, an "overflow" bottle. It's there to catch any coolant from the overflow tube of the radiator that would occur with excessively high coolant pressure; ie, overheating condition. It's not a big deal if the bottle is low on coolant. Be more concerned if your radiator is low.
the overflow is there to catch the expansion of the liquid, like hellfire said due to the increased temps you will have some vaporization causeing increased pressure. thus, as this is a closed system there needs to be a place to "overflow"
but YES! be mindfull of level indications. nothing worse than failure due to negligence.
happy motoring
